Peace Lutheran College (Peace) is a co-educational Kindergarten to Year 12 day and boarding school located in beautiful Cairns in tropical North Queensland. Pastoral Care at Peace is based on restorative practices and strong relationships. Staff seek to be relational rather than transactional. Through embedding restorative practices in partnership with Real Schools, we proactively engage with our students, to provide a high level of support for all areas of pastoral care: academic, social, emotional and spiritual, which increases outcomes in learning for each individual.
About the Role
Learning Assistants support student learning by working collaboratively with teachers to develop and implement strategies to allow students to access the curriculum across key learning areas. The College offers a culturally diverse and inclusive working environment and is seeking a Learning Assistant to work with students in differentiated groups, support literacy and numeracy programs, prepare resources and materials and undertake general classroom administration duties. The position requires the applicant to value individual differences by working inclusively with all students and be able to demonstrate their capacity and willingness to engage with the Christian ethos of our College.
Criteria
- Certificate III or IV in Education Support or equivalent
- Current working with children Blue card or be able to obtain
- Commitment to the learning and welfare of students including those with additional needs
- Excellent written and oral communication with the ability to interact with students of all backgrounds and abilities
- The ability and preparedness to work as part of a team
- Dynamic, flexible, relational and innovative
- Proven ability to foster independent learning habits with students
- Previous experience in a similar setting is preferred
