Purpose
Reporting to the Director for Litigation, the Litigation Lawyer delivers quality legal services and advice aligned with Nevett Ford’s performance standards and values within the practice area. This involves performing a general range of duties including providing legal consultation to clients, attending to mediation sessions and court hearings, as well as filing of legal documents.
The Litigation Lawyer holds legal qualifications and has been admitted as a practicing lawyer with experience in litigation law. Duties include dispensing legal advice to clients, drawing and drafting of documents, preparation of applications and submissions for court and tribunals and appearing for clients representing their interests in matters.

Key Capabilities, Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience working within a legal firm in the area of litigation law, preferably with a focus on cases involving institutional abuse or personal injury claims.
- Investigation experience including interviewing key witnesses (desirable).
- Minimum of 3 years' Post Admittance Experience (PAE) but willing to consider a more senior operator with salary commensurate to experience. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate documentation.
- Proficient MS Office and computer skills.
- Experience with the Lexis Nexis Affinity practice management software (desirable).
Principle Accountabilities
- Providing general as well as more complex advice and guidance on Litigation Law matters.
- Managing legal documents including but not limited to preparation, filing and service of court documents, oral and written advice and court and settlement/mediation attendances; drafting of recommendations; review of relevant claim and discovered documents
- Actively engaging clients and attending to communications to the Court, as well as with relevant parties such as Plaintiff’s legal representatives, counsel and/or expert witnesses.
- Administering settlement procedures including negotiation of settlement and arranging payment of settlement funds and/or payments to other relevant parties.
- Preparing relevant Medicare and/or Centrelink documentation.
- Communicate with the team weekly/monthly on objectives, status of matters, and other work-related matters/projects.
- Pursue resolution of individual allocated cases in a proactive manner in accordance with the Head of Department’s expectations, keeping all relevant stakeholders informed.
- Manage allocated files to comply with office operating and legal case management standards, including meeting set targets and providing monthly reports to the Head of Department and/or Director.
- Ensuring that all documentation is filed and served within expected time frames to uphold data/information integrity.
