Job description

As a statutory authority, the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) has the responsibility of managing Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure their ongoing sustainability, while supporting the value they deliver to the commercial, recreational, aquaculture and Indigenous fishing sectors. We work with government and stakeholders to optimise the social, cultural and economic benefits of Victoria’s fisheries and aquaculture industries, while promoting sustainable and responsible practices.

The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. We are committed to getting more people fishing by creating opportunities for people of all abilities to try fishing; to making it safer, cheaper and easier for the boating and fishing communities to get out on the water; and to making local seafood more readily available for everyone to enjoy.

Our function is to ensure that the Government, Victorian fishing sector and general community obtain the benefits of careful management to ensure demand can be sustainably supported into the future. This is achieved by matching demand to fish stocking and infrastructure, while providing up to date information on resource condition and supporting regulatory requirements.

Manager Corporate Operations  

  • Salary: $130,673 - $174,869 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Ongoing role
  • Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Melbourne CBD (hybrid work options available)

The VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability.  The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management.

The VFA has around 190 employees located in the Melbourne CBD, metropolitan Melbourne and across regional Victoria.

About you

  • Comprehensive understanding of Corporate Operations
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated highly developed conceptual, analytical and strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience in successfully leading, planning, managing and delivering relevant projects and initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex procurements and understanding of purchasing practices and procedures
  • Understanding of principles and implementation of good governance, efficient business, financial management and corporate compliance
