Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services. The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing markets, lending and transaction banking execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business customers. IB&M Finance supports the IB&M business through monthly branch reporting, balance sheet substantiation, provision of data for management information and ad-hoc requirements to facilitate the control and reporting.

About the team:
The New York Finance team is responsible for the regulatory and financial reporting of the Group’s New York Branch operation, as well as the managing the related tasks and controls of the wider finance function. Reporting is provided to local management, the IB&M Leadership Team, Group Finance and to external stakeholders, including market regulators.

We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and influential individual to work effectively and collaboratively within the New York finance team and the IB&M business, whilst building relationships across the wider CBA network. To be successful in this role, a strong drive on continuous improvement, eliminating waste, and a focus on what matters is critical.
The role reports to the Senior Manager, Financial Controller USA. The role will require a close working relationship with all areas across the New York IB&M business and Group Treasury, as well as the Domestic and International IB&M Finance team.

Your main responsibilities will include:
- End-to-end responsibility of the FINRA regulated broker dealer entity with reporting and in depth analysis on Debt Capital Markets, Fixed Income and USPP businesses; including subsidiary books and records, regulatory reporting, working with external audit, production of financial statements and working directly with the external FINOP.
- Working with Product Control team based in London to ensure accuracy of New York Global Markets reporting. Also support the wider finance team in coverage New York branch month end processing and reporting. Participation in ad-hoc Finance projects, testing and system upgrades. Consolidation of monthly revenue and expense information for the IB&M businesses.
- Assist with the regulatory reporting function through maintaining data integrity, product system flows and end-to-end reconciliations, as well as understanding and promptly rectifying source system breaks.
- Improving and automating reporting from LRDB Microsoft Access data repository.
- Preparation of monthly balance sheet analysis for all three CBA Americas entities to be discussed and presented at monthly risk, asset and liability committees. Including detailed movement analysis on derivatives, and other Global Markets and Treasury products, noting business drivers and market commentary.
- Working with the broader team through the production of revenue and expense reporting packs for the New York Leadership Team.
- Ensure that effective internal controls exist and are revaluated to address changes to the business model/structure. Involves close relationship with Line 1 and 2 risk teams.
We are interested in hearing from you if you have:
This role will be suitable for a fully or near qualified accountant holding a professional CA/CPA or equivalent qualification. Also possessing FINRA Series 27/28, or equivalent preferred or willing to complete.
- Well versed with statutory accounting principles, such as IFRS or US GAAP.
- Experience in a Product or Financial Control function with strong numeracy, Product Control and General Ledger systems, as well as knowledge of Murex, WSS, MIDAS and LoanIQ or similar product systems and reporting package skills.
- Strong Excel modelling, SQL, VBA and similar skills.
- Experience in analysing large data sets and understanding data flows and impacts.
- Knowledge of the Institutional or Investment Banking industry with a strong knowledge of Fixed Income, Debt Capital Markets and US Private Placement would be beneficial.
- Good understanding of financial products including derivatives and high-level valuation concepts and their use within a Global Markets business.
- Knowledge of Treasury products, structure of the balance sheet and revenue flows.
- Demonstrated experience in change management would be beneficial.
The salary range for this role is from $130,000 to $160,000. The salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
