Managing and coordinating health, safety, and environmental initiatives throughout Vena Energy's Australian operations, this role plays a crucial part in aligning practices with the organisation's Integrated Management System (“IMS”). From managing safety protocols to ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, the position serves as a key driver in upholding Vena Energy's commitment to excellence in HSE standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the implementation of Vena Energy’s IMS, across VEA’s corporate and operational sites. The on-going implementation of the IMS will include training roll out, education, and inductions.
- Lead HSE strategy, conduct training and education including monitoring the EdApp training and providing support, booking of HSE related external training i.e. Annual First Aid & CPR Refresher, 4WD training, etc.
- Projects/Site Audits - Review contractor health and safety documentation and benchmark against Vena Energy’s IMS.
- Lead HSE examinations, manage risk.
- Ensure all projects comply with government regulations, maintain knowledge of regulations including compliance with Equator Principals, Modern Slavery Act, and where applicable, any Cultural Heritage requirements for project sites.
- Month end reporting, including the recording of HSE & CSR metrics for sites and offices in Anaplan; and contribution to Lender’s project/construction reports.
- Coordinate with teams, prepare and update HSE risk assessments, liaise with stakeholders in HSE matters. HSE Meetings (internal and with contractors/site teams) Safety alerts and safety initiatives National and State safety programs Road Safety, RUOK, etc) .Lunch & Learns
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and conduct regular Drills, for self-managed O&M sites.
- Undertake Brisbane office/building Warden training, and participate in all organised Drills and Training. Liaise with Melbourne office team re the building emergency training.
- Lead incident investigations (both internal and external - project/contractor), and reporting, ensure compliance with incident reporting requirements.
- Manage SafetyCulture/iAuditor – review Issues and Incidents, Reporting, Actions, Lessons Learned, Close-out. Identify any training requirements; process improvements based on incidents and issues reported.
- Participation in the development and review of Tender documentation, including reviewing and ensuring Technical/Work Specifications address all HSE requirements for the Project and Contract.
- Oversee the development and performance of the HSE team, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Prepare annual health and safety budgets aligned with Vena Energy’s global strategy including purchasing of items such as PPE and HSE equipment, SAI Global subscription.
- Coordination and management of Rewards & Recognition program
- Coordinate the delivery and review of business continuity plans and business impact analysis for VEA’s corporate office, construction and operational sites.
- Management of team members in the HSE team including workloads, performance, mentoring and career progression.
Qualification:
Relevant qualifications in occupational/workplace health and safety
- Lead auditor qualifications in OHS
- ICAM
- First Aid and CPR
Experience:
- 5-10 years of experience in occupational/workplace health and safety
- Proven experience in HSE management, preferably within the renewable energy, construction, or related industry.
Technical / Professional Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of relevant HSE legislation, regulations, standards, and best practices in Australia.
- Proven track record of conducting HSE audits, inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
Good to have:
- Electrician/electrical background
- Experience in the electricity/energy industry and construction sector
