We have recently embedded a new organisation structure and this role will join our high performing and connected Senior Leadership Group.

About the Role:

As our Manager of Planning and Building Services, you'll lead a recently formed, engaged and high performing team with responsibility for Statutory Planning, Statutory Building Services, and Planning and Building Customer Experience and Support. The department recently combined two high-performing teams, who consistently produce some of the best statutory planning decision times in the state.

Aimed at enhancing our delivery of service excellence to our community, you'll be at the forefront of guiding development projects, ensuring our decisions are robust and comply with the planning scheme and other regulations, and leading a customer-centric approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a senior leader in the organisation, provide trusted strategic advice to the elected Council and executive leadership team and contribute to the work of the Senior Leadership Group.
  • Lead and develop one of the top-performing planning functions in the state, overseeing the assessment and approval of development applications with a focus on sustainability and community well-being.
  • Manage statutory Building Services, ensuring that construction projects adhere to building codes and regulations to promote safety and quality.
  • Enhance Planning and Building customer support and experience, streamlining processes, and providing personalised assistance to residents, developers, and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and inspire your team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve Planning and Building Services, leveraging data and feedback to drive positive outcomes for our community.

About You:

To support your success in this role:

  • You will have relevant tertiary qualifications in a related or aligned discipline.
  • Proven senior leadership experience in statutory Planning and/or Building Services, with a track record of delivering results and enhancing the customer experience.
  • You are a strong team player with high political acumen, emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and sound judgement
  • You possess excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, and have a passion for providing exceptional customer service.
  • Strong analytical skills with a strategic mindset, you have the drive and ability to lead continuous improvement and innovation.
  • You have a commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and supportive work environment.
