Creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally, and globally, James Cook University (JCU) is now looking to appoint a Manager, Policy and Translation. This is a full-time, fixed-term contract to 31 December 2032 and is based at the JCU Cairns Nguma-bada campus, Smithfield.
How you’ll make a difference
Working with all CIEHF partners, including Indigenous Partner Organisations, you will develop tools, knowledge and innovations that informs new management strategies, programs and protocols that are directly relevant to Indigenous Land and Sea Management organisations and ranger groups, Indigenous Protected Areas and jointly managed parks. You will play a key role as you work to improve practice, legislative reform and a new generation of guidelines and codes to make Indigenous knowledge systems and practices, and knowledge co-production central to the generation of tools required to the adaptive management of enjoyment of Australia’s landscapes and seascapes into the future.
What you’ll bring
With extensive experience in policy development, interpretation, and Translation across all levels of government you will operate as a knowledge broker as you oversee the development and maintenance of relationships with Centre Members, Indigenous and other Partner Organisations, policy-makers and end-users. With proven cultural competency and knowledge of Australia’s Indigenous people and environmental history you can communicate effectively to build relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities whilst maintaining strong working relationships with varying levels of stakeholders to achieve outcomes for the CIEHF.
ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous and Environmental Histories and Futures (CIEHF)
ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous and Environmental Histories and Futures aims to generate a new direction in knowledge creation based on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led approaches to managing Land and Sea Country. The Centre expects to make a legacy contribution by developing complementary Indigenous and Western knowledge frameworks for modelling environmental, cultural, and historical change in Australia over the last millennium and into the near future.
