Job description

About the Sunshine Coast
The Sunshine Coast is one of the largest and fastest-growing areas in Australia. With a thriving community and economy, the Sunshine Coast has continued to cement its place in the Australian landscape as a premier destination to both live and visit.
Continued population growth ensures that the demand for services will grow accordingly as it builds towards playing a pivotal part in hosting Brisbane 2032 and beyond to leave a positive legacy on a healthy, smart and creative region.
By 2046, the Queensland Government forecasts that the Sunshine Coast will reach a population of over 565,000 people, living in 232,000 dwellings. This represents an increase of 219,000 people and around 84,800 dwellings over 25 years (from 2021).

About Sunshine Coast Council and the branch
As one of the largest local governments in Australia, Sunshine Coast Council serves a population of over 370,000 people with an area exceeding 2,000 square kilometres.
With a clear corporate plan that sets out to deliver to the community a smart economy, strong community, healthy environment, service and excellence, and an outstanding organisation, they are well-set for the future.
This includes Council’s Integrated Transport Strategy (2018) which is supporting the design of our new neighbourhoods and adapting some of our existing neighbourhoods to incorporate and connect to planned major public transport corridors (Direct Sunshine Coast Line, Sunshine Coast Public Transport project), to make our region ‘transit supportive’, getting ‘transit ready’ and establishing the building blocks for a more sustainable future.
Within the Transport Network Management branch, they pride themselves on providing high-level asset management services for all road and related infrastructure assets including pavements, bridges, drainage, pathways, and street furniture. There is a need to build upon the continuous improvement culture and drive towards a high-performance team as part of the broader Council approach to Organisational Excellence.

About the role and you
The Manager, Transport Network Management is a key member of the Transport Community of Practice that has the near-term opportunity to update the Integrated Transport Strategy for the next 20 years.
As a critical member of the Leadership Team, you will report directly to the Group Executive Built Infrastructure and have responsibility for the strategic direction of road safety, roads, car parking, and stormwater. You will be leading a future-focused branch that will affect the lives of most residents within the Sunshine Coast Council area.
As the Manager of Transport Network Management, you will draw on extensive stakeholder engagement expertise to advise key personnel. You will be required to consult and collaborate extensively with your community and key political and organisational colleagues. To succeed, you will be a multi-faceted leader and skilled in the following key areas:

  • Working strategically within Council and Queensland state organisations to support the achievement of the planning scheme and integrated transport strategy outcomes
  • Seek to elevate the importance of active transport, including the delivery of programs that assist with modal shits towards all abilities and all modes
  • Manage transport and stormwater network performance with a focus on safety and service outcomes
  • Asset management of $5 billion of assets that enable regional, community and customer services
  • Financial management including operations, capital projects and a commercial car parking business
To be successful, you will have developed your leadership experiences in an engineering-related background. You will be able to think and act strategically, while leading with empathy and compassion. You will understand the opportunities and challenges of developing sustainable transport solutions for future generations and you will enjoy the intellectual challenge of designing transport asset management strategies for an area that will grow exponentially in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic Games and beyond.

You may currently be in a similar role in a local or state government organisation or working in the private sector or institution. You will be driven by the desire to further enhance Sunshine Coast Council as a vibrant, environmentally aware, and fast-growing region.

A tertiary qualification in a relevant field of expertise (Civil Engineering) is a necessity, as is RPEQ registration.

Please note that we welcome applications from candidates with a diverse background and applicants from interstate and overseas are encouraged to apply (relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate).
