We are seeking an experienced media professional to oversee our media management and drive media advocacy and publicity campaigns on behalf of Australia’s influential $420 billion retail sector.
A strategic thinker, you will be highly proactive and enjoy using your research and writing skills to help influence and set the Media and Communications agenda. Organised, with a strong attention to detail, you understand the importance of well researched and timely content.

You will work closely with our retail members and the ARA’s policy team to shape campaigns and advocacy work and help maintain the reputation of the ARA and the retail sector. Your work will impact important and diverse issues - from careers and workforce challenges, supply chain and e-commerce outcomes to globally pioneering industry initiatives around sustainability and diversity equality and inclusion.
Your ability to research and write fact-based material ensures our communication campaigns get noticed by media, government and key stakeholders. With excellent stakeholder management skills, you will forge strong relationships with media, research entities and our internal stakeholders and external members and partners. Working closely with the ARA’s CEO and leadership team, you’ll manage requests for commentary and research and write speeches, podcast content and other key communications materials. You understand how important a well-run and efficient media operation is for busy executives.

Responsibilities:
- Drive the media strategy for the ARA and Australia’s retail community.
- Lead our media management.
- Key activities include media releases and publicity campaigns, research reports, speech writing and other Media and Communications content.
- Strengthen our media brand and relationships with key media.
- Work closely with our policy and advocacy team and Australia’s leading retail organisations.
Selection Criteria:
- 5+ years experience in a similar role.
- Superb written and oral communication skills.
- Strong understanding of Australian business, Media and political landscapes.
- Well-developed organisational skills including the ability to managing. deadlines and competing priorities.
- Attention to detail.
- Deep experience dealing with Media and managing media relationships including significant experience writing and distributing media releases and driving media campaigns and media outcomes.
- Flexibility and a strong work ethic.
