Job description

We are an established Gastroenterology practice located at Deakin, seeking a professional, friendly and positive Medical Receptionists to join our team.

Skills and experience

  • Fantastic customer service skills in a medical environment and compassion for patients
  • Experience as a medical receptionist is essential
  • Positive can-do attitude
  • Excellent phone manner and ability to deal politely with patient queries
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, tolerance and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and to work in a busy environment
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team, including working efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
  • High level computer literacy
  • Professional presentation

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in a gastroenterology or other specialist medical practice
  • Familiarity with Medical software and Eclipse billing experience

About the role

Customer service is very important within the practice. You will be the primary contact with the patient, making the first impressions either in person or over the phone. The candidate will be provided with adequate training, as we believe in building relationships with our patients. Customer service provided by our staff has a great impact on the practice’s reputation and our patient’s journey. The front desk team plays very important role in the quality of the service we provide. The person will interact with Patients, Doctors, Nurses, Pathology labs and Endoscopy Centres. 


Some of the duties include:

  • Managing phone calls, emails and messages
  • Meet and greet patients, patient billing, general admin tasks
  • Triaging patients appointment bookings, confirming appointments for the clinic and surgery
  • Daily dispatching of medical correspondence
  • Management of patient recalls and incoming referrals for new patients
  • Provide administrative support to the Doctors, Nurses and allied health staff in the practice
  • Liaising with hospital-admin and clinical team
  • Surgical bookings, scanning of clinical notes and results
