PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer in Laos, with pre-development and exploration assets in Laos and Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Company is focused on a sustainable business model associated with the production and sale of copper and gold, delivery of production goals and growth.
Phu Bia Mining’s producing assets are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, both located in the Company’s 2,600 square-kilometre. The company has a Mineral Exploration and Production Agreement (MEPA) with the Government of Laos which regulated exploration, development and mining activities within the Contract Area, and sets out the Company’s tax and royalty obligations.
This position is based at our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane. Ban Houayxai is an open cut mine with a Carbon in Leach (CIL) process plant, producing approximately 100,000 oz gold and 780,000 oz silver annually.
Reporting to the Geology Manager, the Mine Geology Superintendent is responsible for the integration of all geological functions at Ban Houayxai into the safe and efficient extraction of the ore body. Key aspects of the role are all focused on minimising ore loss and dilution to deliver the right ore at the right time to the mill and include:
- Grade control planning and execution
- Geological mapping
- Grade Control estimation and assay quality control
- Blast design input for geological control
- Dilution control
- Searching for extension to the ore bodies
- Drilling project support
The role will ensure succession planning of Lao personnel is planned and on track to meet objectives. The superintendent role will play a critical leading role in developing the open mine operating strategy in conjunction with the planning superintendent to meet business targets whilst also ensuring compliance to all PanAust policies standards and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Management of all ore control and grade control functions at Ban Houaxai;
- Ensure quality and efficient extraction of the ore body through excellent geological processes;
- Peer review and regular auditing of geological processes to ensure compliance;
- Monthly and annual production and geology reconciliations;
- Grade control management;
- Geology database management and validation;
- Quality control of all aspects of the role inclusive of drilling, sampling, modelling and extraction of ore;
- Oversight and generation of daily, weekly, monthly and other reports as required;
- Training and development of team members;
- Develop section budgets and participate in mine budgeting process;
- Manages the drilling contractor to ensure contract compliance to quality, productive and safe grade control;
- Demonstrates a high level understanding of the deposit geology;
- Demonstrates a high level understanding of sampling, assay quality control, data interpretation, grade control estimation and modelling, mine to mill reconciliation;
- Identify key risks in Mine Geology and Grade Control plus Resource estimation/modelling and implements effective management strategies.
- Ensure Acid Rock Drainage management plan is integrated into production planning, followed and updated to mine requirements
- Positively contributes to the Mining team attaining its business plan targets and ensures that all targets for the resource development section are met;
- Close liaison with Mine Operations and Processing to ensure that production and ore body blending and integrity objectives are achieved;
- Effective budgeting and management of staff resources;
- Leading the BIP program and seeking for any saving opportunity
- Involvement the budget de-risking.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Degree qualification in Geology, Mining or relevant field is highly desirable
- At least 10 years of mining or related experience in geological processes, with 3-5 years’ in a leadership role
- Be a self-starter who is proactive and driven is critical to the role
- Being competent in LEapFrog, Surpac and Acquire is highly desirable
- Be able to provide a strong commitment to training and supporting the growth of Lao National employees
