About the OrganisationKimberley Aboriginal Medical Services LTD (KAMS) is a well-established regional Aboriginal community controlled health service, founded in 1986, which provides centralised advocacy and resource support for 6 independent member services, as well as providing direct clinical services in a further 6 remote Aboriginal communities across the region.KAMS has successfully delivered high-quality, accessible comprehensive primary health care services over its 30 years of operation and has provided innovation and national leadership in areas such as health information management and evidence-based best practice in primary health care.The Kimberley region is located in the northern part of Western Australia and covers about 421,000 square kilometres. The Kimberley has only three towns with a population of more than 2,000 (Broome, Derby and Kununurra), and the total population is around 37,000. In addition to the sealed Route 1 which runs along the southern part of the area, the unsealed Gibb River Road runs through the heart of the region from Derby to the highway near Kununurra. Access to much of the region is by dirt road, air or sea.About the OpportunityKAMS now has an opportunity for a Nurse Home Visitor (NHV) to join their friendly, multidisciplinary team in Kununurra WA, on a full-time basis. The Nurse Home Visitor works with the Family Partnership Worker and provides a comprehensive home visiting service to pregnant women with an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander baby and their families. The mothers are supported by the Nurse Home Visitor and Family Partnership Worker from early in her pregnancy until her baby is two years of age. The NHV works with the Family Partnership Worker to foster a culturally safe, therapeutic relationship with pregnant women and promote high level engagement and successful program outcomes.Some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
  • Provides culturally safe home visits to women who are eligible for the ANFPP and their families and works with ANFPP team members to enhance the team’s capacity to remain culturally safe
  • Utilizes the nursing process and delivers content at home visits in a way that maintains alignment with the client centered principles including modelling therapeutic relationships, change theory, self-efficacy, client centered, strength based and solution focused approaches.
  • Works collaboratively with teams and uses Reflective Practice in supervision to improve skills in delivering care in line with the Program model.
  • Carries a case load of up to 25 clients.

  • A Registered Nurse (Division 1), with at least 3 years of relevant clinical experience.
  • AHPRA registration.
  • An understanding of Primary Health Care, particularly as it applies to Indigenous people.
  • A current Working With Children Card.
With strong communication and relationship-building skills, Post graduate experience in Maternal or Child health is preferable but not mandatory. Similarly, experience working with a remote Indigenous Health service will be highly regarded.This role will suit someone with a calm, reflective nature and the ability to show the cultural sensitivity require when dealing with women pregnant with an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander baby.In addition, you will need to have a current unrestricted Australian driver's license and be willing to travel by 4WD and light aircraft when required.It is a requirement that the successful candidate is willing to undergo a National Police Check prior to employment with KAMS and have their full COVID vaccination.About the BenefitsKAMS is an organisation that truly values its team, and is committed to improving employee knowledge, skills and experience.   • Annual Airfare of $1,800 after 12 months continuous service
