The Role
The Occupational Hygienist is responsible for coordinating an effective and pro-active health and wellbeing program for Covalent Lithium, including the implementation of new initiatives, Covalent’s document framework, systems and programs to assist the business with health and hygiene monitoring and reporting requirements across its operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Active participation in the establishment of a health and safety culture.
- Comply with all health and safety, environmental and regulatory policies relating to the project and ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure all health, safety and environmental incidents are reported.
- Design, implement and maintain organisational hygiene monitoring programs for both Mt Holland Concentrator, Mine and Kwinana Refinery.
- Identify potential hazards in the workplace which may impact the health and wellbeing of the workforce.
- Deliver health risk assessments, site monitoring, assessing/recommending controls.
- Conduct workplace exposure assessments including but not limited to chemical exposure, air quality, dust, heat, humidity, noise, lighting, flood and mould assessments, risk assessments, and remediation and decontamination assessments.
- Inspect and audit workplaces, processes, plant, chemical and physical hazards for legislative compliance.
- Coordinate health and hygiene monitoring activities at both sites, including the coordination of consultants or contractors to undertake specialist site testing and reporting.
- Analyse and interpret results of assessments to develop plans for improved work conditions.
- In response to health and hygiene report outcomes, seek relevant follow ups, internal approvals and coordinate the implementation of required changes at site with the relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain records of observations, contaminant analysis and recommended control.
This is a Full-Time Permanent position primarily based at our Kwinana Refinery with regular visits to other Covalent sites.
Role Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree qualification in Occupational Health and Hygiene, Science or equivalent
- Registration / Certification as an Occupational Hygienist by a national governing body such as Australian Institute of Occupational Hygiene (AIOH), is desirable.
- Regulator approved training course in sampling and assessing airborne contaminants and noise.
- WHS risk management for mine air quality and noise officers
- A valid C Class Manual Drivers Licence
- Valid First Aid Certification (preferred)
- Strong experience within the resources industry in a similar health, and hygiene role.
- Knowledge of mining and/or industrial processing industry risks associated with health and hygiene requirements.
- Knowledge of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and Regulations
- Previous experience with the implementation of new health and hygiene programs, particularly in a Greenfields mining environment is highly desirable.
- Experience in conducting investigations, assessments and training.
- Experience in internal audits.
