Fixed Term Part Time Role.

This is a fixed term, part time Grade 3 role within Occupational Therapy and will provide an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and highly motivated applicant to contribute to the care delivered in this specialist cancer hospital. 

The successful applicant will provide strong clinical leadership and practice in the area of cancer services and occupational therapy as well as have extensive clinical experience and leadership within the following areas:

Clinical service delivery
Leading a culture of quality improvement 
Assisting with the teaching, education and professional development
Developing a culture of research and academic activities
Change management
 

The successful candidate will possess:

Strong theoretical knowledge and specialist clinical experience
Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
Experience in service planning, development and evaluation
Strong quality improvement, education and leadership skills
Strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills
Knowledge / experience at a senior allied health level in cancer care
Demonstrated leadership within the profession / allied health / cancer care

Position Summary

In collaboration with the clinical leads and head of department, 

  • Provide clinical care to patients with cancer, and their families using evidence based treatments (approx. 60 - 70% clinical) 
  • Provide clinical leadership across the team 
  • Build clinical relationships with assigned tumour streams 
  • Provide clinical supervision for junior staff and coordination of the management of the undergraduate and postgraduate student programs 
  • Contribute to service development and strategic planning 
  • Lead/ Engage in quality or research projects 
  • Lead/ Engage in departmental professional development activities 
  • Raise our team profile internally and external to the organisation 
  • Assist in strategic planning and daily operations of the department 
  • Act as a role model for others, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and leadership

Post Graduate Qualification in Occupational Therapy

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy (Bachelor, Masters or equivalent) 
  • Current AHPRA Occupational Therapy registration 
  • A minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience as a practicing physiotherapist with specialist experience in oncology 
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision and staff support 
  • Experience supervising students and junior Occupational Therapists 
  • Ability to initiate research and / or projects 
  • Excellent communication skills, computer literacy, interpersonal and leadership skills 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and professional development, particularly in oncology 
  • Demonstrated occupational therapy assessment and practical experience in a wide variety of acute conditions, preferably within cancer populations 
  • An enthusiasm for working in multi-disciplinary teams 
  • Reliable, flexible and conscientious approach to patient management and workplace issues 
  • Advanced level of interpersonal and conflict management skills 
  • Demonstrated organisational, time management, planning and priority setting skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team 
  • Valid Victorian driver’s license 
  • Meet the standards in the Code of Conduct of OT Australia 

Desirable Requirements

  • Ability to consult and adapt treatments to the special needs of oncology patients 
  • Interest or experience in an acute cancer care 
  • Clinical experience in the delivery of occupational therapy services in acute cancer care, lymphoedema management and other health care settings 
  • A wide range of acute clinical skills and experience (in particular, acute cancer care, palliative care and rehabilitation) 
  • Expertise and interest in quality, research methodology and program evaluation 
  • Post graduate qualifications in occupational therapy, lymphoedema or related field 
  • Valid Victorian driver’s licence 
  • Relevant peak body membership (OTA, COSA, ALA, etc.) 
  • Ability to conduct a literature search and appraisal 
  • Experience working or placement in an acute care setting
