Successful General Managers always have a strong Operations Manager at their side. They come to rely on them as a sounding board, an important member of a senior management team engaged to achieve successful business outcomes.
We seek to engage the services of an experienced Operations Manager who will support the General Manager in running the business. Reporting into the General Manager and having a number of direct reports including projects managers and administrators, you will add operational, financial and commercial expertise to all areas of the business. With a flat organisation structure, this position will be hands on, project centric, managing WIP and driving jobs to successful close out.
The Operations Manager is ultimately responsible for the technical and administrative management of all allocated customers, projects, servicing requirements and other field activities from the time of order receipt until the end of the defects liability period, including coordination and management of shared resources. This is achieved through leading and resourcing multiple work teams and providing high level customer service. This role is pivotal in ensuring all work is on track and meeting agreed timelines and financial targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Operational Staff
- Allocate work responsibilities to Project Managers, Supervisors, Leading Hands, Engineers, Coordinators and Administrators and ensure competent processes to track jobs
- Set up new projects and support tendering processes as needed
- Manage staff performance (recruit, coach, mentor, performance management)
- Deliver Profitable Work
- Ensure allocated works meet agreed time and financial targets
- Participate in strategy/business planning processes
- Work closely with operational staff to manage project risk mitigation
- Oversee administration of all Works including variation processing and all other financial aspects
- Utilise Resources
- Ensure effective coordination and utilisation of people across works/jobs
- Oversee effective materials management including equipment, vehicle fleet and plant maintenance
- Ensure compliance with all work requirements, applicable standards and statutory requirements
- Provide Customer Service
- Promote, maintain and manage customer and supplier relationships
- Establish and maintain external relationships and industry networks
- Work with staff to secure ongoing maintenance agreements and retain/grow customer base
- Regularly Review Business Processes
- Identify improvement opportunities/innovation/cost saving alternatives
- Extensive and effective people management skills gained within the engineering/mechanical/electrical/or fire industries
- Solid experience in Projects/Works/Services - understanding WIP, project cost accounting, allocation of resources
- Electrical Trade qualification/Engineering Degree or Diploma
- Strong logistics background with excellent attention to detail
- Proven hands on and proactive management style with ability to improve and refine business processes
- Well developed analytical, financial management and problem-solving skills
- Highly IT literate
- Collaborative working style
- Customer focused with a strong service ethic
- Ability to travel interstate occasionally
