HBT Services QLD is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery across QLD and operates under two (2) plants, being Overhauls and Gearbox repairs.
About the role:
The Operations Manager will drive execution in the Specialty Equipment business, delivering within time, cost, documentation & quality parameters. This incorporates leading a management team, along with overall accountability for workshop and sales activities within Mackay.
The Operations Manager key responsibilities include:
- Leading a safety culture across the site, modelling safety behaviour, driving standards, and actively supporting key safety initiatives, effectively utilising (JSRA’s Take 5’s etc).
- Calculating total recordable injury frequency rates (TRIFR).
- Site safety audits and working with results.
- Developing and implementing action plans for HBT Services QLD Operational Strategy as a new OEM to the QLD market.
- Ensuring sufficient skilled staff are trained, both from management, supervisory and trades perspectives.
- Ensuring workforce plans are in place to deliver project work in accordance with agreed times and within budget.
- Ensuring business is not constrained with by lack of resources.
- Ensuring attraction and retention strategies are implemented with succession plans in place for key critical positions.
- Leading the management team, driving project outcomes in line with agreed time & costs.
- Projecting Business EBITDA.
- Ensuring the Sales Pipeline is maintained.
- Overseeing key customer interactions during all phases from initial enquiries and contacts through to completion.
- Workshop capacity planning.
- Ensuring KPI targets are met such as, labour utilisation >80%, Actual hours/planned hours -100%, no NCR’s , reworking less than 2% of overall project cost’s and average project cost and timings are no more than 110% of planned.
- Ensuring project business quality is at a suitably high standard, reinforcing HBT’s image as a quality provider of equipment in the market.
- Collaborating with finance to develop and manage budgets for operations, while identifying cost-saving measures without compromising safety or production targets.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and implementing practices to minimise the impact of mining operations on the environment.
- Maintaining effective communication channels with other departments, stakeholders including employees and contractors.

Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field highly desired.
- Relevant heavy industry experience within a national or multi-site setting.
