The Opportunity:
Role:Operations Supervisor
Location: Cairns Far North Queensland
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operations of our Cairns depot. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring that loading and unloading tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule, while also managing labour and equipment requirements.
The position will include the following duties but will not be limited to:
- Ensure quality, express movement of freight delivery, no delays, or losses, in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Maintain daily control over freight distribution, timelines, freight security, freight handling care and paperwork management.
- Maintain team leadership – setting day-to-day order of tasks for your assigned teams, truck drivers, forklift drivers and dockhands.
- Conduct corrective action(s) training with employees.
- Re-schedule jobs between team members and/or priority of tasks as required.
- Re-check freight exceptions for prompt delivery.
- Actively participate in the recruitment process including conducting interviews and inductions of new employees.
- Ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Staff supervision and management.
- Coordinate the inbound/outbound operational movements.
- Maintain regular housekeeping.
- Carry out general duties including administration tasks as required.
To be successful in this role you must possess the following skills, attributes, and qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within the transport and logistics industry (Essential)
- A broad understanding of transport laws, fatigue management and safety requirements
- An adequate level of literacy, numeracy, and computer skills
- IT Literate
- Demonstrated solid experience in supervising and coordinating staff.
- Excellent communication skills written and verbal.
- Be highly organised with a keen eye for detail.
- Experience in scheduling trucks and drivers.
- Sound knowledge of regional Far North QLD
- Good understanding of the transport CoR
- Understand fatigue management law.
This is a full-time salaried position with remuneration dependent upon experience and qualifications.
