We are a labour hire company operating in construction, mining, manufacturing, transport and are heading into other areas too. This role reports into the owner of the business and will grow revenue and profit when done right.
This position has crystal clear outcomes:
- Genuine reduction in the time you and the payroll and accounts team spend processing payroll and accounts - that means spending time looking at process breakdowns and fixing them at the source. It’s easier to deal with problems in the moment, but we need someone who is willing and able to step back, look and think about it, and fix it once and properly. It means engaging with stakeholders, extracting information from people and systems and then influencing people to do things differently to ensure the processing side is easy.
- Delving into awards to ensure we are paying correctly, partnering with sales managers and their customers to learn, educate, inform and problem solve for commercial outcomes for customer and us. Sometimes listen, and sometimes inform and always ensure we are compliant.
- Provision of insightful commercial reports that help managers make better decisions. We have the systems and data, it’s about engaging with managers finding out what will help them make more informed decisions and then building reports and tools to help them
- Delighting the Accounts Payable teams of our customers, providing accurate, efficient invoicing practices, listening to customers to understand what would make life easier for them and finding ways to do just that
- 100% compliance to all legislative requirements including paying at least to awards, adhering to National Employment Standards, meeting all obligations from ATO, State Parties
- Getting our people paid and invoicing customers on time and accurately every time.
Some of the skills, experience and attitude you will bring include:
- At least three years experience in a payroll/finance/analytical role. You have done payroll, but not exclusively - it may have been part of your very busy job.
- Influencer - if you aren’t able to influence you will not be successful here. You need to be able to learn what other people do in the company, what their priorities are and you need to be able to engage them at the right time and in the right way with what you need them to do. This role reports into the boss, so you have clout, and you should use it wisely. That doesn’t mean we want a bossy pants who literally holds the purse strings, it means we need someone who will do what is right for the company, be innovative and creative to provide flexibility when it matters, and at times tough to ensure we maintain standards.
- Commercial solutions - everything you do is in consideration of the business priorities. Some examples of what we mean here - if the business is focusing on getting into new channels, you would immediately think “what reports can I generate that helps people take action here?”. If someone asks you for the pay rates for a C12 you would provide a comprehensive summary of the C12 base, casual, penalties, allowances, shifts, different scenario options and even recommended charge rates to achieve margin targets. If we want to attract a different type of worker, is there a different way we could pay them that would attract them?
- Curiosity - our business is powered by systems in the ambition of automation, and it can be confusing and hard to understand when you aren’t used to it. You need to be someone who just has to know how something works, and why stuff happens, and be very confident with systems and technology.
- Smart and savvy - not book smart - life smart. This means you can see patterns, and understand how things link together and what you need to do to get things done. You do need an analytical mind and great attention to detail
- Fast - sense of urgency and wanting to get things done for customers and employees. There will be no plodders here.
- People manager - the more training and support you give your team the less you have to “do” the more you can “think”. If you are someone who thinks 'it's easier to do it myself', this is not the role for you.
- An Accounting or Bachelor of Business degree or proven work experience where you have learned the same stuff is absolutely essential.
We love people who LEAD - who figure out what's going wrong and FIX IT!! Please apply if this is you
