Our client is a non-profit Indigenous organisation with a strong focus on achieving tangible results for the First Nations people of Cape York. The organisation empowers Indigenous families and communities to strive for lives of value, freedom and prosperity. Currently, they have 10 entities working on the ground with the people of Cape York and Cairns to break the cycle of disadvantage. This position will be a part of an energetic, supportive and active team, located in their contemporary Cairns office.
The Opportunity
As the Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring all payroll-related financial management operations are executed in an accurate and timely manner. The major accountabilities of the position are payroll, budgeting, and auditing.
Some of your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Perform the payroll function (including associated taxation and superannuation obligations) ensuring all deadlines and statutory requirements are met;
- Review payroll reports for accuracy and compliance;
- Reconcile Payroll, Superannuation and PAYG on a monthly basis;
- Monitor PBI limits for all staff;
- Provide legal and sound payroll related advice to managers and/or being able to research relevant information;
- Prepare and distribute monthly reports (profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow) including analysis of actual financial results against budget;
- Contribute to the organisation’s annual budgeting processes by assisting in developing annual budgets in consultation with key stakeholders;
- Adhere to internal auditing processes to ensure effective internal control and compliance with statutory and government requirements.
- Certificate III or higher in Accounting, Finance, Payroll Management or equivalent qualifications, or a minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience in a similar position;
- Demonstrated experience with computerised finance ERP and / or payroll systems (e.g. Pronto);
- Proven ability in cash flow management;
- Knowledge of Award implementation and interpretation and current industrial relations matters;
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting principles and demonstrated knowledge of automated bank reconciliation functions.
