Position Objective:
As the Planning Team Leader, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing our Planning team to ensure that statutory and strategic planning functions are executed efficiently and effectively. You will be responsible for overseeing planning activities in accordance with relevant legislation and council policies, while fostering positive relationships with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Planning team to ensure compliance with relevant planning legislation.
- Prepare and present reports to Council and Executive Leadership Team on statutory and strategic planning matters.
- Assess, allocate, and review planning permit applications, providing advice to developers and the public.
- Engage in community consultation and negotiation to achieve better planning outcomes.
- Represent our municipality in public forums, planning consultations, and legal proceedings.
- Provide support to the Development Manager and contribute to strategic planning initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring high levels of customer service and decision-making quality.
- Undertake planning enforcement activities and prepare planning scheme amendments.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to facilitate the planning assessment process.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in urban and/or regional planning or equivalent, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of planning legislation, including relevant acts and schemes.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing planning scheme amendments and representing councils at planning panels.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to negotiate and advocate effectively.
- Autonomous work ethic with a commitment to fostering a positive team environment.
- Possession of a current Victorian driver's license.
