Exciting opportunity for a Plant Manager Superstar who will help us set up a brand new Food Grade Powder Blending Plant in Melbourne.
This plant will be a new addition of the Findlay company group, who have over 110 years of experience in bread baking and 20+ years of experience in breadcrumbs and powder blending. You will be leading a small team in our state-of-the-art automated facility. While it may be “hands on” at times your key role is to drive continuous improvement and optimisation of, and compliance with, all of our processes to ensure we deliver safe quality coatings products to feed our communities and delight our customers.

The role
The Plant Manager will oversee all daily operations of the Melbourne batter blending plant from production and manufacturing to procuring and planning and ensuring our policies and procedures are followed. You will work closely with the Findlay family & leadership team to develop processes that will maximize, safety, quality, stewardship, and efficiency to help ensure that Walter Findlay Ltd is the first choice for employees and customers.
Key accountabilities
Plan, organize, direct, and manage optimum day-to-day operations to delight our customers.
Commit to leading and participating in a successful safety-focused culture with full alignment to company values and direction.
Be responsible for production output, product quality and delivery on time and in full.
Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus to the Melbourne team.
Drive continuous improvement for people, products, plant and processes.
Troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise.
Lead and guide our Melbourne team effectively while building a trusting team relationship.
Minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards while monitoring and analysing data to eliminate inefficiencies and waste.
Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on investment.
Ensure robust training systems are in place to successfully onboard and develop people.
Analyse data and create reports to present to the Findlay Leadership team.
Assist and manage projects as required for plant and equipment upgrades.
Help our team develop new products and processes.
Stay up to date with industry knowledge to ensure the bread plant stays relevant.
Work with managers to ensure an effective employee recruitment and retainment process.
Skills & experience
In this role you will require passion and energy to create and improve systems as well as the desire to do right by all employees on the Findlay team. The following skills will help you achieve the outlined role accountabilities:
- Proven experience as a Plant Manager
- Ability to create accountability and lead by example.
- Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and employee relations)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
- Positive, can-do attitude with the ability to perform under pressure.
- Ability to align with company values.
- Understanding of the importance of HS and Food Safety compliance within a food manufacturing environment
- Computer and Microsoft 365 literacy (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams & SharePoint apps)
- BS degree in Business Management or related field is a plus.
