Carbal Medical Services (Carbal) is a Not-for-Profit, charitable organisation that provides health services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander community in and around Toowoomba and Warwick.
The core function of Carbal Medical Services is to provide medical services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people delivered through two medical practices and many community programs. Covering the Darling Downs and Southern Downs regions including Goondiwindi, this position will be based in our Toowoomba General Practice clinic and reports directly to the Clinic Manager.
Position Overview
This role will see you working as part of a nursing team to deliver exceptional standards of care to Aboriginal Torres Strait Islanders, and you will be motivated and have a genuine desire to Close the Gap in Indigenous health outcomes. Your brief is broad and extends across all aspects of the organisation. Your skills as a Nurse will ensure smooth and efficient function of the practice in a clinical setting. You will have a thorough understanding of chronic disease issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people along with knowledge of Medicare entitlements for Indigenous clients in order to help the organisation meet its operational requirements. Understanding of the national privacy principles and the importance of confidentiality, will make you stand apart from other applicants
Ideally you will have a varied experience and are a savvy communicator who can rapidly establish trust and respect with clinicians and patients.
Key duties will include but not be limited to:
- Provide high-quality nursing care to clients, tailored to their individual needs and cultural preferences
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care and support for our clients
- Utilize your experience to effectively manage and prevent chronic diseases through early intervention and personalised care plans
- Demonstrate reliability, confidence, and strong communication skills in all interactions with clients, families, and team members
- Show appreciation for Indigenous culture and adapt your care approach accordingly, promoting a culturally safe and inclusive environment
Essential
- Current AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse or an Enrolled Nurse; Or
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive and work cohesively with Management to achieve patient outcomes;
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a clear understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, or the ability to rapidly acquire the same;
- Varied knowledge of chronic disease issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
- You will have a demonstrated understanding of the health issues found in our Indigenous Communities;
- Demonstrated ability to effectively self-manage work flow and report on outcomes against the action plan;
- Current Open C Class Driver's License valid in Queensland;
- Satisfactory Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Record, and ability to obtain a Blue Card. This will be conducted on initial appointment and on an annual basis in line with Carbal's compliance schedule;
- Current CPR certification;
Desirable
- Demonstrate experience in delivering Primary Health Services. Ideally your experience will be in a General Practice and/or hospital setting or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and post education and training;
