This is a very exciting time for Fremantle; the City is facing a period of substantial change and has ambitious plans for growth and development. Some key projects in the pipeline include the renewal of the Fremantle traffic bridge, major commercial and residential developments, various road safety programs and contribution to the development of the draft City Plan with a vision for the next 20 years – with a focus on sustainable practices and collaboration across the whole Infrastructure Directorate, organisation and community.
The City is seeking to appoint an experienced Principal Design Engineer who can provide team leadership, strong stakeholder management as well as technical development advice, while managing the design of all civil engineering projects and related service areas against a program of works.
This position reports to the Manager of Infrastructure Engineering and plays a significant and strategic role in the development of strategies and policies, urban streetscape traffic management initiatives, Road Safety Programs, improvement of safe bicycle networks and an essential contribution to the future development of the City and associated Civil infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:- Ensuring that designs meet the requirements against specifications, quality, cost and time. Civil design areas include, but are not limited to road renewal, drainage, footpath, bicycle, traffic calming and car parking.
- Possess and maintain an up to date, high level knowledge of civil engineering trends, techniques and legislation, ensuring all policies, processes and standards comply with legislative/regulatory requirements.
- Prepare programs, schemes, cost estimates and recommend priorities for draft budget submissions, as well as annual submissions for external funding grant programmes for Capital works projects.
- Provide leadership that encourages staff participation in collaborative decision-making processes and innovation.
- Foster trust and encourage teams to engender a culture of continuous improvement.
About you:
- You will be an experienced professional, who is driven and will go above and beyond for our customers.
- A ‘can-do’ person who has exceptional communication skills.
- Have extensive knowledge and experience of civil engineering, planning, estimating, materials technology and operational works programs, models and trends, ideally in the context of a Local Government services environment.
- Demonstrated experience in complex civil engineering design.
- Comprehensive knowledge of planning and design interfaces in an urban environment.
- Detailed knowledge of Australian Standards, codes of practices and legislative/ statutory requirements related to City infrastructure projects and services.
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent experience.
- Eligible for Membership of Engineers Australia or equivalent.
