Job Objective
An Environmental Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating risk management policies and programs. Secure and maintain all necessary environmental regulatory approvals and support third-party contractsand services in consultation with the General Manager – Health, Safety, Environment & Heritage for the successful completion of the project.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for preparing documents and correspondence related to complex environmental assessments.
- Undertake inspections/compliance assessments and compliance investigations of operations to determine compliance with industry legislative requirements.
- Reviewing all current approvals and checking for compliance or other environmental issues
- Reviewing ISO14001 documentation including but not limited to Risk Registers and Environmental Management Plans
- Reviewing the above to priorities higher-risk areas that need further focus (or auditing) to ensure compliance
- Assist in the facilitation of external and internal environmental approvals audits
- Communicate with supervisory and managerial staff on the environmental approvals performance as required
- Provide advice to the site team on environmental approvals and environmental compliance issues
- Identify actions to ensure compliance is documented and implemented in the appropriate timeframe
- Ensure incident outcomes are conveyed to the wider team and actions are put in place to prevent reoccurrence.
- Carry out further Environmental Approvals inspections, monitoring and incident investigation as they arise
- Ensure all approvals related to reportable incidents are investigated and appropriately communicated
- Review and provide comments on environmental approval documentation, management plans and procedures.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management Degree or an approved equivalent scientific degree
- 2-5 years' experience in an associated environmental approvals or Government sectors
- Experience in auditing/inspections of environmental approvals within a dynamic working environment
- Ability to work with consultants and complete Health and Safety requirements for Environmental Surveys
- Ability to work individually and as a team for project work
- Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritise effectively
- Ability to work with the Exploration/Resource Development leadership team and form positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to interpret legislation
- Excellent communication skills
- Good understanding of current legislative requirements in regard to environmental management in WA
- Good knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems
- Manual C Class Driver's Licence
- Certificate II First Responder or IV in Basic Healthcare would be desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in environmental management including the assessment of environmental aspects and risks associated
- Experience in preparing reports on environmental assessments, investigations and/or analytical research.
