This is an exciting opportunity within the Cape York Peninsula Tenure Resolution Program (the Program), within the Partnerships Branch to make a significant contribution to reframing the relationship of First Nations people and the Department in order to support co-stewarding the cultural and natural values of Queensland.This role involves working with Traditional Owners in Cape York Peninsula to lead and negotiate innovative land tenure dealing agreements. The agreements stive to deliver Aboriginal land and protected area outcomes under the Aboriginal Land Act 1991, Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Land Act 1994 within the Region defined by the Cape York Peninsula Heritage Act 2007.Travel statement:
- This position location is flexible, and frequent travel to Cairns and Cape York will be required, including overnight stays.
As the Principal Project Officer you will:
- Develop, manage and implement projects which negotiate agreements led from a First Nations perspective and incorporate people, country and co-stewardship principles.
- Develop and maintain highly collaborative relationships with First Nations people, community, special interest groups, and other agencies to underpin the success of the project.
- Provide leadership in the development and management of Program activities including monitoring, evaluating and reporting on progress, business planning, budget monitoring, and compliance with legislated obligations and statutory requirements relating to land tenure.
- Provide specialist advice to stakeholders both internal and external-to-Government with regard to agreement making including policy support and interpretation of relevant legislation and related departmental policies, practices and processes.
- Prepare and/or coordinate briefing notes, program plans, submissions, reports and correspondence associated with the Program.
- Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
