The Principal Scientific Officer will work within the Michael J Cousins Pain Management and Research Centre in the Dept of Pain Management of Royal North Shore Hospital. They will be responsible for providing leadership in developing and promoting the Centre’s research activities within the NSLHD and NSW Health, as well as in collaboration with external organizations, such as universities and professional bodies. Within the Centre, they will be responsible for the co-ordination of Clinical Research for the Centre, including the management of human subject clinical trials, ensuring all governance and ethics requirements are met. They will collaborate with departmental clinical staff to develop research skills and to encourage participation in Clinical Research, including providing advice and support in preparing protocols, and submissions to supervising and funding bodies. They would be expected to have their own clinical pain-related research focus that they would continue to work on in collaboration with other departmental researchers and clinicians, as well as external research networks.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- A Master’s degree, or Doctor of Philosophy, in a relevant field of research, with at least ten years post-graduate experience
- Demonstrated experience in Clinical Research working with human research subjects and in clinical trials coordination.
- Experience in data analysis including the use of statistical programs, in addition to expertise and track record in the preparation and publication of scientific papers.
- Experience working effectively within collaborative research teams as well as the ability to work autonomously with minimal direction.
