The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Establish, support and maintain the QPS telecommunications interception (TI) system.
- Ensure the integrity of the TI system at all times in particular the capture and retention of all lawfully intercepted information (LII).
- Manage complex technical projects to improve the delivery of interception services to the QPS.
- Work in a highly sensitive operational environment requiring a high level of confidentiality.
- Undertake research and analysis on new and emerging telecommunications technological trends and products which may impact upon QPS TI system.
- Provide high level advice to QPS senior management and diverse TIU stakeholders on technical issues impacted upon by the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (Cwlth) and other areas of policy and procedures.
- As primary QPS contact officer, liaise with Information Systems Branch, TI system vendors, third party suppliers and other law enforcement agencies' TI system technical support areas.
- Manage and supervise a small technical team attached to the TIU.
- Represent the QPS at national TI system technical forums.
- Maintain a high level of integrity at all times and actively contribute towards the physical security of TIU premises and equipment, intercepted data, warrant information and operational methodologies.

- The successful applicant will be required to undergo a psychometric assessment prior to appointment.
- Applicants are advised that whilst performing the duties of the position they may be exposed to material (written, visual and audio) of a graphic and sensitive nature.
- Due to the specialist technical nature of this position and TIU generally, applicants with recognised qualifications in the areas of network engineering, computer science, Information Technology and/or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
- Due to the operational nature of TIU and the need for continuous 24/7 state-wide TI system interception capabilities, applicants are advised they may on occasion be required to work additional hours and/or 'recalled to duty' at short notice.
- Applicants are advised the position holder will be required to travel interstate periodically to represent the QPS at national TI system technical forums.
