About Metro Trains Sydney (MTS)

MTS is now in its fifth year of operating Australia’s first fully automated passenger railway, the Sydney Metro North-West line, and will soon be extending this Metro line through to the City and Southwest. About the Role  

We have an opportunity for a strategic commercially savvy Procurement & Contracts Managerto join our Finance and Business Services team.  Reporting into the Head of Procurement & Contracts Management, your role will develop and implement appropriate contract management frameworks and procurement strategies to ensure commercial and contractual delivery and risks are managed and deliver value for money.

This opportunity is based at our Administration site in Tallawong with flexible working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the performance, commercial management, & ongoing review of contracts/framework agreements and manage commercial risks in a proactive manner.
  • Monitor, audit and support business divisions in their ongoing contract & supplier management.
  • Propose commercial strategies, cost control measures & advice to senior management to mitigate risks and recommending appropriate mitigating actions on commercial/risk events.
  • Ensure strategic sourcing and negotiation activities secure competitive arrangements with suppliers.
  • Support the business to deliver and execute all procurement related activities.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure clarity of the specifications and contract expectations.
  • Collaborate with legal and divisional teams to develop & maintain standard contract types.
  • Develop procurement plans and market tenders to support management decision-making.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties as requested by management.

About You 

Sound experience within the railway and construction industry is preferred with experience in conditions of contract especially in the capacity of a negotiator coupled with experience in the resolution of contractual disputes as well as managing contractor accounts. 

You will also possess the following:

  • Degree level or equivalent and professional qualification including CIPS
  • Ability to build trust with key business stakeholders as the lead procurement business partner.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide authoritative advice and to manage positive relationships, influence and negotiate with a diversity of internal and external stakeholders at all levels to ensure successful outcomes
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills and strong capacity to think and act innovatively, including the ability to collect, analyse and present effectively operational data and information to support decision making and action
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and delegate tasks to achieve objectives within agreed timeframes and to required standards
  • Ability to collect, analyse and present complex data and information effectively to support decision making and action planning.
