About The SARU
Since 2008 SARU has been supporting and resourcing independent Victorian Self Advocacy groups and organisations for people with Intellectual Disability, people with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and people with complex communication needs.
About the Position
The Project Coordinator will work with six self advocacy groups to deliver the Building a Strong Foundation ILC project.
Over 3 years the Building a Strong Foundation project will develop and action a Self Advocacy Community Engagement strategy that supports six diverse Self Advocacy groups, including urban & regional groups, a First Nations group & 2 LGBTIQA+ groups, to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Resource the groups to run their Self Advocacy Groups
- Resource the groups to develop and action Self Advocacy community engagement plans.
- Coordinate collaboration across the six Self Advocacy groups
- Foster cultural safety across the diverse intersectional groups supported in the project through proactive promotion and implementation of inclusive practices
- Monitor, evaluate and report on project activities in line with all obligations
- Manage a small team of Project Workers
- Facilitate a community of practice open to self advocacy staff
Key Selection Criteria
- Understanding of group self advocacy
- Knowledge of the human rights and social models of disability
- More than 2 years experience working with people with Intellectual Disability and Acquired Brain Injury, including being confident and relaxed building rapport with and working alongside people with Intellectual Disability and Acquired Brain Injury
- Staff or volunteer management, supervision or mentoring experience
- Experience in project management, including planning, monitoring, evaluating, reporting and coordinating the delivery of projects.
- Ability to create accessible resources in a variety of formats, including Plain and Easy English documents
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, including being an active listener, paying attention to and understanding nonverbal signals, expressing yourself clearly and adapting communication to different situations
- Budget management experience
- Competent using multiple technology platforms including Microsoft Office suite, online information storage systems, online meeting tools, multiple social media applications and demonstrated capacity to develop other digital skills
