Working within Biosecurity Qld, Animal Biosecurity & Welfare program, the successful candidate will be part of the Dangerous Dogs Project Team that provides project management support to the Director, Animal Biosecurity.
As part of this opportunity, the successful candidate will be required to perform the following -
- Lead the preparation and dissemination of high-quality project proposals, project documents, reports, submissions, briefing notes, evaluations, advice and budgets under the general direction of the Project Manager and/or sponsor.
- Manage staff in accordance with departmental policies, apply performance management skills including performance and development.
- Review and refine project scope and clarify stakeholder expectations (e.g., Project Sponsor, Project Board) and governance and risk management processes so that the project remains on track and so that an appropriate level of flexibility is built into project planning.
- Develop and manage project communications such as regular reporting to sponsor/s, updates to stakeholders, project events (e.g., product launches) etc.
- Negotiate, schedule and manage delivery of project outputs within allocated resources, ensuring that the deliverables meet the requirements and expectations of business stakeholders and are consistent with the approved project plan and with DAF and whole-of-government policies.
- Use recognised project management techniques, methodologies and relevant software as determined by the context and in line with departmental requirements.
- Undertake risk and issue identification, assessment and mitigation activities ensuring risks and issues are documented, reviewed and escalated along with recommendations as appropriate.
- Contribute analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills to the project planning, implementation and evaluation process including the ability to coordinate multiple tasks within agreed priorities, timeframes and accountabilities.
- Undertake and/or lead research and analysis to support development, implementation and/or review of the project for reporting purposes; and to aid business improvement or project management capability and process.
- Represent Biosecurity Queensland at forums and working groups relevant to the role as required and work to promote BQ, its strategic goals and project.
Highly Desirable to this role are:
- Diploma or Degree in Project Management or similar.
- Experience with local or state government in the implementation of animal management or local public health and safety programs.
- Experience in managing projects that operation within a regulatory environment.
Term of Engagement:
The total term of contract engagement the department is currently seeking up to 30 June 2026; with an initial contract term of 12 months and an extension option of up to 18 months.
