As a Capital Works Design Project Manager, you will oversee and manage a variety of public domain, pedestrian, and traffic engineering Capital Works and design projects. You will guide these projects through all phases, from initiation to finalisation, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This role will not be ‘creating’ individual and bespoke projects i.e. new buildings or parks – it’s more having an oversight of many minor design projects that contractors will produce i.e. drainage , lighting in a park, raised pedestrian crossings, etc… that are all to align with the city’s pre-determined designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage internal and external staff, consultants, and contractors.
- Oversee all project phases including initiation, design, documentation, construction, commissioning, and finalisation.
- Ensure timely delivery of projects within budget and in compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Develop and implement risk management, WHS, and Environmental Management Plans.
- Prepare and manage Project Plans, including decision-making and stakeholder relationships.
- Negotiate and administer contracts, including evaluating progress and variation claims.
- Ensure compliance with relevant authorities to avoid project delays.
- Coordinate with consultants and contractors for seamless integration of works.
- Prepare regular cost reports, project status updates, and compliance reports.
- Uphold project management and governance processes.
- Foster a collaborative work environment and continuously seek improvements.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and share information across all levels of staff.
- Managing multiple projects with varying scopes and budgets.
- Ensuring compliance with legislative and policy requirements.
- Balancing stakeholder expectations and project deliverables.
- Local Government experience is ideal, experience in public domain and infrastructure projects would be essential or at least highly advantageous.
- 5-10 years of experience in project management within public domain and infrastructure projects.
- Ideal candidates will have managed major projects valued at $20M+ and smaller projects up to $1.5M per year.
- Strong design portfolio management experience (>$4M per year).
- Sound knowledge of project management principles, risk management, and contract administration.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with clients, stakeholders, consultants, and contractors.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Civil/Structural/Services Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
