Mitsui Bussan Woodchip Oceania Pty Ltd. (MWO) is an Australian subsidiary of the global Mitsui & Co., Ltd Group and one of Australia’s largest woodchip exporters. MWO has been involved in Australia’s woodchip export industry for over thirty years - from owning plantations, to managing harvesting and logistics, owning and operating woodchip mills, managing port facilities, chartering woodchip carriers, and marketing to customers throughout Asia. The majority of MWO’s plantations and woodchips are certified to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) global standards for environmental, economic and social responsibility.
The Role
MWO is seeking a Project Manager – Plantation, Woodchips and Carbon to join the team on a permanent basis. They will be responsible for leading the management and implementation of all projects within MWO, in addition to managing the business development and investment functions of the business.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Business Execution, Development, and Investment:
- Lead internal initiatives for new business and projects at MWO and joint ventures.
- Develop and implement strategies for new business, marketing, and trading.
- Identify and assess new business and investment opportunities aligned with MWO's strategy.
- Manage end-to-end process for new opportunities, including screening, financial analysis, due diligence, approvals, and integration.
- Conduct business, financial, and risk analyses.
- Prepare market research, pitch documents, and business plans.
- Lead Local Business Origination (LBO) initiatives.
- Strengthen relationships with strategic partners and develop new partnerships.
- Build external business networks with industry players and service providers.
- Negotiate business and investment opportunities to protect Mitsui’s interests.
- Prepare internal business budgets estimating profit and costs.
- MWO Group Companies Management:
- Manage and strengthen Group Companies' business operations, including marketing, at senior management and operational levels.
- Participate in meetings with management and stakeholders to discuss marketing strategy, business plan progress, and new collaboration initiatives.
- Monitor financial performance and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess impact on MWO's quantitative results.
- Leadership and Staff Development:
- Develop and mentor direct reports to achieve individual, MWO, and organisational goals.
- Support the Chief Operating Officer in coaching and allocating activities for MWO staff.
About You
Qualifications & Experience:
- A tertiary degree in Forestry, Land Management, or International Trade.
- Extensive commercial experience in marketing and international trading of forest resource products.
- Demonstrated experience in new business and investment development, including due diligence processes.
- Deep knowledge of forestry, project management, commercial law, finance, and risk management.
- Advanced understanding of the investment process, including financial analysis, modelling, and negotiation.
- Strong background in pitching and presenting to senior management and stakeholders.
- Proficient in financial, business, and risk analysis for investment and development opportunities, including negotiation.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively represent the business.
- Strategic planning and implementation expertise.
- Experience and understanding of the Australian carbon market.
- Leadership and people management experience, with a focus on mentoring, supervision, and engagement.
