Job description

  • Be part of the growing Public Law team
  • Market leading Administrative law work for key Commonwealth clients
  • Several opportunities across multiple levels in ACT, Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane
  • Flexible work arrangements
About us

HWL Ebsworth is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that in our case, the differences are real. We deliver exceptional legal advice to our government and commercial clients in every State and Territory across Australia.

As Australia’s largest and fastest growing legal partnership, we are proud to offer our staff unrivalled career development opportunities. Our transparent career development framework ensures that all team members are aware of the firm’s expectations at each level, and what is required to advance to the next career stage. We pride ourselves on promoting and rewarding talent based solely on merit, which allows all team members to reach their potential, and are committed to providing an environment that supports and encourages all team members to progress.

We are excited to announce that our Public Law team in Canberra continues to grow; our continued success has resulted in several opportunities for experienced Public Law lawyers (across levels from junior to Associate) to join our dynamic team. The growth of the Practice extends beyond the ACT and as such we are interested in hearing from candidates in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane too.

About you

The team, led by partners, Michael Palfrey and Will Sharpe, is especially interested in recruiting lawyers with administrative law experience, including in merits review in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, judicial review in the Federal Court, and investigations and inquiries. The successful candidates will have carriage of their own litigation matters and will also be involved in advice work for a range of Commonwealth clients on administrative decision-making, statutory interpretation, and information law matters.

The successful candidates will be team players, committed to providing quality legal services to the Commonwealth government, and be willing to contribute to the team’s ongoing business development.

About the opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward thinking firm with a strong focus on developing their people for success with real career progression on offer. You will be provided with a unique opportunity to learn from and to work with experienced Partners and senior lawyers who are highly regarded in the industry.

On offer to the successful candidate is a supportive team, a healthy work life balance and a transparent pathway for promotion.

HWL Ebsworth is also committed to supporting flexible working arrangements for our employees to assist them to balance their professional and personal commitments. To support this, the firm offers professional staff members the opportunity to elect to work remotely for a portion of their week. Part time candidates are also encouraged to apply for this role.
