Purchasing Officer

Pacific Industrial Company (PIC) is a highly regarded private company and a recognised leader in the Australian steel fabrication and construction industry. We provide steel design, fabrication and construction services to the construction, mining, oil & gas sectors Australia wide. 

PIC are currently seeking an experienced Purchasing Officer, for a 4-month fixed term with the possibility of extension if required. This position will be based in our Naval Base head office, Monday to Friday. 

Duties to include, however not limited to:

• Raising of purchase orders in a timely manner.
• Ensuring all purchase requisitions are appropriately authorised and are within established limits.
• Sourcing new and one-off goods and/or services.
• Negotiating with suppliers to ensure the best price is obtained up-front.
• Reviewing existing contracts to ensure competitive terms and pricing is maintained.
• Specification interpretation: In conjunction with the project managers and Engineers interpret and source new or revised requirements.
• Expediting: Ensuring that goods and services are delivered to promise.
• Quality management: Ensuring that goods and services meet specification.  Any shortcomings to be documented and rectification action by the supplier to take place.
• Supplier management: Ensuring that suppliers are given regular feedback on their performance and action is taken where shortcomings exist.
• Negotiating new contracts with suppliers.
• Maintenance of supplier and standard cost details.
• Liaising with accounts payable for misallocated purchase orders and invoice discrepancies.
• Ability to identify and implement processes which will value add.
• Implementation of best practice supply and procurement standards.

Essential Requirements:

• Procurement qualifications would be highly regarded.
• Experience in a fabrication and Construction environment.
• Well organised and an ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Ethical and honest.
• Good commercial acumen.
