Located on Brisbane’s doorstep Moreton Bay Marine Park covers 3400km2, stretching 125km from Caloundra to the Gold Coast and has 3.5 million people living within 50km of the park boundary

This position is based at Manly, on Brisbane's bayside. The OO5 Ranger is a diverse role involved in vessel operations, marine resource monitoring, community engagement, education, compliance and emergency response management.
Every day will be a new and exciting challenge. One day you'll be leading a compliance patrol, the next, responding to a live marine mammal stranding, the next undertaking maintenance on marine infrastructure. You will balance field work with days in the office; managing projects, entering and analysing data, creating reports and educational material.

- A purpose and a challenge that matters You will work in a team of highly skilled rangers to preserve and manage the marine park, protected areas and culturally significant sites. The work is not always easy, it is very reactive and sometimes requires long hours outside normal work hours, but our people find satisfaction in knowing that their efforts are significant in effecting
You will never be bored in this challenging position, but you will need to be flexible and able to adjust to change. Planned operations are frequently interrupted and you will need to be able to work with and lead small teams in the field. Outdoor work such as vessel patrols and enforcement operations will form a part of your duties, but you will also have opportunities to get involved in a wide variety of other work and there will always be reporting and administrative tasks. Our rangers focus their skills locally, but they occasionally assist other management units across Queensland including the Great Barrier Reef. * A collaborative, innovative environment
You will need to work closely with key stakeholders such as state and local government, marine agencies, Traditional Owners, marine wildlife rescue organisations and volunteers. We foster an environment where all people support each other in a positive, safe, diverse, and inclusive culture. Safety is a key area, and the unit is always looking for better and safer ways of completing any task. You should be able to not only identify possible improvements but be able to research ideas and present suggestions to the team and managers in a comprehensive manner * Great working location
You will be working in a marine park that has Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coasts on its borders and is one of the most visited protected areas in Queensland. Based in the central location of Manly, you will have easy access to all that the Southeast Queensland Region offers.
You'll need:
- A good understanding of marine natural resource management and conservation principles
- A strong understanding of maritime operations, including vessel operations experience and workplace health and safety
- A good understanding of Marine Park and Nature Conservation legislation and experience in compliance and enforcement
- Good administration, reporting, and computer skills
- An understanding of asset management, including capital works in marine environments
- Good communication skills, including stakeholder / community engagement experience
- A Coxswain NSCV1 licence would also be highly regarded
- Hold an unrestricted manual driver's license
