SalaryQueensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships (QPWS&P) have a temporary opportunity for a Senior Ranger to join their team based in Ingham or Cardwell to 30 June 2024 with the possibility of extension. This is an opportunity to lead a geographically dispersed team across the Ingham, Paluma and Cardwell region in North Queensland, working within Parks and Estates withing the Wet Tropics World Heritage area.
As a successful candidate in the Senior Ranger role, you will lead three operational teams that work closely with First Nations people to manage protected areas in the Cardwell, Ingham and Paluma areas. Three rangers-in-charge and one resource ranger report to this vital position. This position reports directly to the Principal Ranger Coastal Tropics and many of the parks associated with this role are within in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.
A key duty of the role is to maintain working relationships with stakeholders including First Nations representative bodies, neighbours, local government, state government departments, Emergency Services, the tourism industry, the Wet Tropics Management Authority and Natural Resource Management bodies.
This position develops and delivers the Ingham Management Unit operational work program in accordance with the Northern Region Business Plan. The position has responsibility for allocating resources, monitoring outcomes, and embedding culturally, physically, and psychologically safe work procedures and practices within the Ingham team. Emergency response management is also a responsibility of this role with critical public incidents common in the highly visited recreational areas of the broader area.
This position is based in Ingham or Cardwell. Travel to other locations may be required from time to time. This includes overnight stays and can include weekend work. A degree of physical fitness will be required for this position to enable field work in rugged areas an in tropical weather conditions. Intrigued? Want to know more?
