Job description

Two positions - AO5 Senior Ranger (Visitor Management) and AO5 Senior Ranger (Assets)
Both positions support the Assistant Principal Ranger (Visitor and Asset Management) in the planning and delivery of visitor and asset management programs for the Central Region.
Support operational teams and engage with diverse networks. Provide technical advice relating to the management of projects, assets and procurement. Verify inspections and maintenance activities are undertaken and assets comply with legislative provisions, codes and standards. Recognise opportunities and suggest solutions to improve recreational opportunities and reduce risks.

These roles lead, plan and deliver regional visitor and asset projects and programs within the QPWS Central Region.
You will:

  • develop processes and tools, and provide training and technical advice to project managers and operational teams relating to visitor and asset management
  • support development and implementation of the Region's capital rolling plan and forward planning processes, such as asset acquisitions, inspections, maintenance, alterations and disposals
  • manage asset-related projects, procurement and contracts, including drafting funding proposals, briefs, technical specifications and conditions for quotation/tender and contracts
  • report on asset and visitor-related programs and projects, identifying risks and offering solutions
  • collaboratively plan and promote sustainable use of the Region's parks and forests, coordinate visitor strategies, analyse visitor data and trends, and maintain a diversity of communication channels (onsite and online)
  • support programs that inform and educate visitors and the broader community about the importance of the Region's natural and cultural assets
  • consult, collaborate and negotiate with staff, First Nations people, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders
  • effectively manage staff, resources and budgets
The location of these positions is negotiable in Central Region with Mackay, Townsville or Rockhampton preferred. Travel to other locations will be required from time to time. This includes overnight stays and camping in semi-remote and remote locations. A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required for both positions.
Work in partnership with First Nations people looking after Country. Continue to grow and leverage your knowledge in program and project management. Support sustainable and responsible use of Queensland's protected estate.
