MIDDAY ON TUESDAY, 28 MAY 2024Job DescriptionThe successful applicant will be required to spend the majority of every shift living in, and working out of, Coral Bay.The successful applicant may be required, possibly for extended periods, to share accommodation (such as portable dongas) with other DBCA staff.The successful applicant may either:

  • live in Exmouth and commute to/from Coral Bay at the start/finish of each 10-day shift (noting that GROH housing in Exmouth is not available, however private accommodation rental support in Exmouth from DBCA may be available);
  • live full time in Coral Bay in staff accommodation (noting that rent, electricity and water will be paid for by DBCA); or
  • secure their own private accommodation in Coral Bay at their own expense (noting that private accommodation rental support in Coral Bay from DBCA may be available).
Note that private rental accommodation in Coral Bay and Exmouth is in very short supply.The works program for this position will include a significant portion of coastal / terrestrial operations and management work, including campground management and remote coastal facilities work. The successful applicant will be required to work within the District’s marine program as well as with the southern operations team, at times under the operational supervision of the Operations Officer (South).Selection CriteriaApplicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total. * Ability to participate in (Grade 1) and implement (Grade 2) operational plans and works programs associated visitor management and natural resource management with an emphasis on the marine environment.
  • Experience in the logistics of vessels, and the operation and skippering of vessels up to 12 metres in length requiring a minimum of Coxswain Grade 2 (NSCV Near Coastal) with ability to attain Coxswain Grade 1 (NSCV, Near Coastal) (Grade 1) or holding Coxswain Grade 1 (NSCV Near Coastal) (Grade 2) with documented evidence of experience in working on commercial vessels in survey (via a certified sea-service book) or equivalent.
  • Good interpersonal skills with an ability for (Grade 1) or experience in (Grade 2): patrol and enforcement activities, ideally in a marine protected area, and liaising with the public, commercial tourism operators, community groups, Indigenous groups, other government agencies and stakeholders.
  • Willing and able to undertake diving activities for the department and be able to pass a commercial dive medical (AS2299.1) annually. Hold an approved Advanced Certification in SCUBA diving and be willing and able to obtain an approved Scientific Diver SCUBA qualification. Hold a Provide First Aid Certificate, and an Advanced Resuscitation Certificate or willing and able to obtain these qualifications.
