About the role
Yarra Ranges Council is committed to promoting active living and fostering community engagement through recreational initiatives. The Recreation and Sport unit plays a vital role in supporting the development and delivery of our strategic vision for open space, physical activity, and Sport participation within the Yarra Ranges community and among visitors.
We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Recreation and Sport Project Officer (Sport). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of recreational facilities and the promotion of active lifestyles within the Yarra Ranges region.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating Recreation and Sport projects related to sports lighting, sports courts, and other sport-related initiatives from program development through to completion or handover to internal units of Council.
- Liaising with external consultants during the concept development stage, while providing support to the project sponsor throughout the duration of projects.
- Acting as a key liaison and interface between local sporting clubs, sport and recreation industry groups, ensuring their needs are met from both a building and participation perspective.
- Supporting the active living initiative of the Council by developing strong connections with community and township groups, as well as internal departments such as Economic Development, Arts Culture Heritage, Youth, and Social and Community Planning.
- Collaborating with internal departments to ensure alignment of projects and strategies with community expectations and Council objectives.
What you'll bring to our team
- Tertiary qualifications in sport and/or recreation management, project management, or a related discipline
- Proven experience in project coordination and management, preferably within the sport and recreation sector or within in Local Government.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when necessary.
- Knowledge of community engagement principles and experience in participatory consultation processes is desirable.
- Passion for promoting active living and facilitating sport participation within the community.

- Salary between $ 93,007 and $101,379 (Band 6 ) per annum, plus 11% superannuation.
