Location

The Greater Sydney region takes in Sydney down to Wollondilly / Sutherland, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, and other areas as described by the Greater Sydney Local Land Services boundaries.

Office - Penrith, Castle Hill and working from home.

Classification/Tenure

Half-time - job share position working a minimum of 17.5 hours per week for the duration of the funding.

Remuneration

$51 per hour plus superannuation and entitlements - dependent on experience.

Organisation Profile

Greater Sydney Landcare Network, known as Greater Sydney Landcare and Streamwatch, has a broad range of members, partners and potential members, including Landcare groups, groups of councils, professional land managers and major regional environmental networks.

Position/Role Objectives

The Regional Landcare Coordinator is responsible for creating partnerships with regional and local organisations to increase awareness and raise the profile of Landcare in NSW and increase funding to facilitate projects both current and future. The Business Support aspect of this position will be as a major contributor to enabling Greater Sydney Landcare's progression towards self-sufficiency.

The Regional Landcare Coordinator will work with the Local Landcare Coordinators and their host organisations, Project Managers, Landcare groups and networks and organisations in their area to support and empower them to achieve their own goals, to participate in Landcare activities, to partner with Local Land Services and to deliver on the target outcomes of the NSW Landcare Enabling Program 2023/2027 (LEP).

Supported by the Local Landcare Coordinator (Greater Sydney Support), and working directly with Greater Sydney Landcare's Committee and Chair, the Regional Landcare Coordinator will directly interact with Landcare and agencies at the regional, district and network scale, in addition to local partners and Government bodies. They will focus on empowering Landcare groups within their region and encouraging participation in Landcare by individuals and groups, and to increase the capacity of these groups.

The Regional Landcare Coordinator will be expected to collaborate with a range of Landcare support mechanisms within their region and other regions across the state including other Local Coordinators, Regional Administration Support Officer, Landcare Committees, Local Government and Local Land Services.

With Greater Sydney Landcare, the Regional Landcare Coordinator will provide business development support, including fundraising (grants and partnerships) and business management. They will focus on processes and streamlining of systems to create smooth and efficient project delivery across the organisation. The Regional Landcare Coordinator will explore social enterprise scenarios and other opportunities to help Greater Sydney achieve financial self-sufficiency.

Key Deliverables:

Facilitate regional delivery and partnerships.

  • Represent the Regional body to create positive change, aligned with strategic outcomes of the NSW Landcare Enabling Program in the region.
  • Manage priorities and outcomes relating to the Strategic Plan of the region to ensure the region is on-track to meet outcomes.
  • Coordinate Regional Community of Practice (COP).
  • Organise regional-level events including Musters and capacity building.
  • Stimulate regional community engagement and participation in Landcare.
  • Undertake and support planning for regional groups and projects.
  • Support to the Aboriginal Landcare Coordinator to ensure the components of the Indigenous programs/projects are incorporated into the working groups of Greater Sydney.
  • Invest in maintaining a strong relationship with Greater Sydney Local Land Services.
  • Invest in networking and partnership building with a variety of public and private organisations.

Advocacy and mentoring Landcare support.

  • Staff support to the regional representative (Chair of GSL) of Landcare NSW State Advisory Committee.
  • Community Liaison - act as a central contact point for the relevant Landcare Regional body/group to supply information to the public and members regarding Landcare in their region.
  • Raise the profile of Landcare within the region, including through media opportunities.
  • Provide support to groups and networks by helping to create and maintain cross region projects and participate in natural resource management activities that address critical environmental and agricultural sustainability issues.

Leadership .

  • Seek and support opportunities for Local Landcare Coordinators across the region to learn and collaborate together.
  • Act as a conduit between the NSW LEP team, Landcare NSW and the coordinators, hosts and other groups and networks in Greater Sydney.
  • Regular communication with Local Landcare Coordinators within the region.
  • Lead regional-level fundraising activities including grant writing and partnership development.

Host organisation support and capacity building.

  • Lead development of future oriented business plans.
  • Provide administration support to Greater Sydney Landcare, including utilising financial, communication and recording systems as required.
  • Regular communication with members and volunteers which may include creation of newsletters and social media content.
  • Managing database of information from Landcare to utilise in projects, including entering all partnerships and stakeholder details into Salesforce.
  • Communicating information on projects and group work to other members of the team/group.
  • Coordinate and setup project management processes, including for grant management.

Program and Regional body reporting.

  • Monitor, evaluate and report on regional activities and outcomes.
  • Facilitate linkages between Landcare activities/projects, Local Land Services and Landcare NSW through completion of case studies etc.
  • Work with Regional Landcare Coordinator Steering Committee and Local Landcare Coordinators to develop and support the implementation of a Regional Priority Plan.
  • Support Local Landcare Coordinators to develop and share their Local Priority Plans.

Reporting/Supervision arrangements

Position reports directly to Chair of Greater Sydney Landcare.

This position will be supported by a regional steering committee.

Links to existing programs

The successful applicant will be working in a broader Landcare network, with support available. The Regional Landcare Coordinator will work closely with Program staff, Landcare Committee Chairs (regional and local), along with a broader network of Local Landcare Coordinators, Regional Landcare Coordinators and Sustainable Agriculture Facilitators across Greater Sydney and surrounding regions. Regional Landcare Coordinators will participate in the Landcare NSW State Advisory Council with their Regional Chair.

The successful applicant will work with Greater Sydney Landcare staff implementing major projects and programs to find opportunities to collaborate on shared objectives (e.g. Creating Canopies, Streamwatch, Southwest Sydney Koala Project).

  • Knowledge of partnerships, key stakeholders and on-ground network.
  • Social media skills - ability to create and implement communication across social media on various platforms.
  • Flexible about their working hours over the period of employment.

Selection Criterion

Please address each of the following criteria:

  1. Sound understanding of natural resource management issues in the region and empathy with the local community and/or experience in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Sustainable Agriculture or similar.
  2. Demonstrated well developed written and oral communication skills, including competency in the use of Word, Excel, email, Publisher, and the internet.
  3. Proven expertise in project planning, time management, record keeping and report writing, grant writing, business strategy review and assessment.
  4. Proven ability to proactively problem solve in a diverse range of situations.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with and develop community groups, including group facilitation, action planning and mediation skills.
  6. Proven ability to work with Government agencies, community groups and landholders, including schools and indigenous groups.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision, use initiative and work as part of a team or network.
  8. Ability and willingness to work outside office hours from time to time, to contact landholders and attend community group meetings.
  9. Ability to travel from time to time.
  10. Current Driver's License and access to a vehicle.

Travel around the region and infrequent travel and overnight stays may be required.

You will be required to use your own vehicle for work purposes and provide us with copies of current Comprehensive or at least Third Party Property insurance policies for your vehicle. Vehicle use will be reimbursed on a per kilometre basis.
