We are currently seeking two Postdoctoral Research Fellows to support the NHMRC Synergy Grant-funded “Implementation of x-ray PhAse-Contrast Tomography to transform cancer diagnosis” (IMPACT) program. The IMPACT program aims to transform the diagnosis of breast and lung cancers worldwide using propagation-based phase-contrast computed tomography (PB-CT).
The Postdoctoral Research Assistants will lead the imaging side of IMPACT in breast CT and lung imaging streams, working closely with the Australian Synchrotron and multidisciplinary research teams at the universities of Melbourne, Monash, and Sydney. You'll contribute to important research that establishes a path to the clinical implementation of PC-CT as a novel low-dose, high-quality imaging technique. This roles offers an exclusive opportunity to work closely with academic, clinical, and industry partners, advancing your academic development and research!
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conduct x-ray imaging experiments with phantoms and breast tissue samples
- Reconstruct and process volumetric medical images
- Develop custom software to perform image processing and analysis tasks.
- Contribute to teaching, training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students
- Actively participate at School meetings and with guidance, contribute to planning activities or committee work to support capacity building in the School/discipline
We're looking for two Research Fellows who demonstrate strong communication skills and excellent stakeholder management abilities.
You will also have:
- A PhD in medical imaging, medical physics, biomedical engineering, image processing or related disciplines
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming for data analysis and advanced processing
- Extensive image or signal processing experience
- Demonstrated ability to prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication
- Demonstrated excellent organisational skills to meet deadlines and bring projects to a timely completion
- Experience in CT image reconstruction and experience in the use of AI in image processing are desirable
This position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check to ensure the University provides a safe environment for everyone.
