  • Exciting opportunity for a Research Officer working in Adolescent Health and Wellbeing
  • Base Salary $95,860 (pro rata 0.50 FTE) + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
At Sydney Nursing School we are committed to the vital role that nurses, dietitians and other public health experts play throughout a person's life and strive to create research that improves patient experience with an impact on health policy.
A new and exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Research officer to provide research support in the important area of Adolescent Health and Wellbeing. You will support and her research team to achieve research objectives on projects aiming to minimise the harms and harness the benefits of digital technologies to improve adolescents' lifestyle behaviours. This work is underpinned by youth engagement and includes youth advisors who are passionate about improving the health of their generation.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • act as first point of contact for the research team and actively support peer ambassadors of the project and relevant stakeholders, internal and external
  • undertake planning and preliminary analysis to investigate and support the scoping of research programs/projects
  • develop suitable research protocols in collaboration with the Chief Investigator, and documents information as required.
  • carry out literary searches, collect academic papers, code information, summarises literature, etc. for the Chief Investigator and/or Academics of the work area.
  • ensure that data collected is entered into the appropriate database for analysis and that records are kept appropriately
  • undertake research and prepare analysis on defined areas of focus, under some guidance of the Chief Investigator and in collaboration with other senior research staff
  • solve complex conceptual problems and makes recommendations based on analysis in collaboration with other researchers to the Chief Investigator
  • source information, research and prepare drafts for research publications and presentations including preparing literary reviews and carrying out theoretical research to support the overall research objectives
  • ensure that ethics guidelines, standards and WHS requirements are met for the work area
  • undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities
About you
  • hold Masters Degree in Public Health or Global Health (or related qualifications) and/or relevant experience in related field. May have (or be working towards) postgraduate qualifications
  • experience in working on research projects with multiple stakeholders, including expertise in using research protocols, ethics submissions, peer review publication preparation and grant applications using endnote, excel and other office applications
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters
  • ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision
  • experience using REDCap or similar software
  • numeracy skills together with experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation/budget tracking, and managing invoice payments and purchases for a project
