Residential Youth Worker - Casual

The Role:

AYSA is looking for passionate casual Youth Workers to join the residential team to provide support for homeless youth at Young House. 

Young House provides short term crisis accommodation for homeless youth aged 15 to 25 years on a 24/7 basis.  Many of our clients present with complex needs and their behaviours place them at risk of significant harm.  Our aim is to provide our clients with a safe, protective, and therapeutic environment that promotes personal growth, connection to community and enhances their capacity to live independently in the community.

Residential Youth Workers provide support using the Strengths Based and Trauma Informed Models of Care through case management and household supervision. 

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

• Minimum Certificate IV in Community Services, Youth Work or in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrated experience in a relevant field.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated sound interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with young people.
• Understanding of issues effecting young people e.g. substance use and mental health.
• Ability to engage and work with young people who have complex needs.
• Ability to assist young people with life skills, recreation and routine development via case management and the development of specific programs when appropriate.
• Understanding of duty of care and Youth Work Code of Ethics.
• Computer literacy, time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours and be available for night shifts as required.

Desirable:

• Diploma in Community Services, Youth Services, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of and comfort with various forms of social media.
• Knowledge of “Trauma Informed Practice” and “Strengths Based Models”.

The occupant of this position will require the following prior to appointment:

• Current C or C-A class drivers’ licence.
• Current Senior First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain same on commencement.
• Working with Children Check.
• National Police Certificate (within six months) and Traffic Infringement/Conviction Records.
• Certificate IV / Diploma in Community Services, Youth Services, or equivalent combination of experience
• Must have commenced appropriate post compulsory studies or meet the minimum experience required
• Minimum one year experience working with youth or the not-for-profit services sector
