3 month contract temp role - Hybrid | on site for an experienced Safety Officer| Advisor.You will need to be able to start by the 2nd AprilLocation : Abbotsford/RichmondAbout the clientOur client is a Corporation that holds statutory responsibilities for the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage and Aboriginal intangible heritage on Wurundjeri Country. Additional functions of the Corporation include, environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremonies, research and cultural consultations.About the role:The Occupational Health and Safety Officer/Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring the continuing health, safety and well being of our employees. Ensure operations and workplace practices comply with Australian occupational health and safety laws and regulations. The OHS Advisor /Officer will promote a culture of safety and provide the advice, guidance and training for Wurundjeri Corporation people to manage the health, safety and well being and themselves, their colleagues, our stakeholders and others.What a typical day would look like :Oversee the overall health and safety of field workers clear who excavate sites around Victoria and need to remove all artefacts that could be of value to 1st Peoples across 40 current sites. These artefacts need to be removed before any land development can occur.The Cooperation employs about 160 employees.Manage and coordinate all site heavy equipment & machinery, including mobile toilets, excavation equipment, PPE that is required to be worn at all times on sites.OHS Officer /Advisor will have access to a vehicle to visit sites but will not need to be onsite each day.Ideal experience:No one day will be the same and much of your day will be spent assessing and conducting site safety checks and equipment needed to manage land excavation work, including dealing with livestock, wildlife and cutting grass before any excavation work can commence.Experience in an outdoor safety function i.e civils construction, agri or similar field.This is a 5 day FTE role with travelling between sites in Victoria and the office.Qualifications:
- Minimum requirement : Cert IV in Work Health and Safety or other relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
- Minimum of 3 -5 year's experience in a similar role with an emphasis on outdoor safety related issues, wildlife management, livestock, cultural understanding and appreciation for 1st peoples
- Experience working with First Nations Peoples would be highly advantageous.
- The ability to conduct duties in a confidential and culturally sensitive manner.
- Knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures and matters including cultural safety and social issues. Ability to support positive working relationships with Wurundjeri elders and members.
- Ability to manage tasks with limited supervision.
