South Burnett Regional Council is one of the largest employers within the region, with offices and depots located in Kingaroy, Nanango, Wondai, Murgon, Proston and Blackbutt.

About the Region

The South Burnett Region is ideally situated just 2 - 3 hours' drive to Brisbane, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and Fraser Coast. The region is home to the stunning Bunya Mountains, where you can enjoy spectacular rainforest walks, nights by the fire in hidden chalets and the best scenic views Queensland has to offer.  The South Burnett region is renowned for its great wine, gourmet foods and recreational facilities such as Lake Boondooma and Yallakool tourist parks.

About the role

  • Based in Kingaroy
  • Maximum Term Full Time (12 Months)
  • $65K - $68K per annum + Allowances + Super

Council is seeking an Officer to manage councils saleyards and dipping facilities to ensure its effective administration and responsive delivery of services to councils customers and clientele. This position will provide guidance and direction in animal husbandry and saleyard operations to all stakeholders, oversee the movement of cattle at the yards, and undertake general pen maintenance/ cleaning of yards and amenities (including weed spraying, rubbish removal, security etc). The successful applicant will have experience working with cattle and knowledge of the industry/ livestock operations, computer skills, able to work unsupervised and sound interpersonal/ communication skills.

Additional Factors: 

  • Participation in after hours and weekend work is a requirement of this position
  • Level of fitness required to undertake a broad range of physical tasks 
  • Working outdoors in hot conditions
  • Immunisation injections will be required for this position (Q Fever)

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement of a current C Class driver’s licence
  • Accredited Cattle Tick Certifier in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 2014.

Desirable Qualifications 

  • Certificate in Animal Husbandry/ Welfare.
  • Level 2 Chainsaw ticket.
  • Forklift/ Bobcat ticket.
  • Queensland Weapons Licence.

Skills and experience

**Please address the following key selection criteria items below, as part of your application**

  1. Experience working with cattle and knowledge of the cattle industry, the National Livestock Identification Scheme, animal welfare and livestock handling management. 
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in livestock operations and saleyard functions. 
  3. Sound literacy, numeracy, and computer skills including knowledge of Saleyard Software Systems.
  4. Sound interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with staff, agents, and members of the public.
  5. Ability to follow direction and work unsupervised.
