Your new opportunity
As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a crucial role in the preparation of budget estimates, budget papers, and the Report on State Finances. You will also be responsible for quarterly reporting to the ABS and management. Collaborating with clients from Treasury, other Queensland Government departments, and the Queensland Audit Office, you will have the chance to make a significant impact on financial reporting processes.
In this role, you will:
- Prepare consolidated whole-of-Government financial statements for the Queensland Budget and Report on State Finances, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and GFS frameworks. This will involve eliminating sector and cross-sector entity transactions.
- Support budget and actual financial reporting by analysing movements in the State's fiscal position. You will compare forward estimate updates and actual year-to-date positions to budget forecasts, providing clear explanations of significant variances for management.
- Contribute to the preparation of budget documentation for Queensland Budget Paper 2, as well as complex notes and audit work papers for the Report on State Finances.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and clients. Your expertise in financial reporting, budget processes, and TRIDATA operational accounting issues will be invaluable in providing expert advice.
What experience you will bring:
- Attention to detail in preparation and analysis of financial statements and understanding and application of legislative requirements.
- strong analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate financial trends and/or variances impacting the State's fiscal position and answer stakeholder queries
- good organisational skills and ability to manage competing work priorities
- maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders and clients
- adaptation to a diverse and ever-changing environment
