The Role
The role of the Senior Accountant is to support the Finance Manager in building an Australian finance function capable of instilling financial integrity into the finance reporting and compliance whilst also support of the Kemerton operation. The stakeholders are vast and the deliverables challenging therefore the role requires a proactive individual with a versatile skillset willing to embody the values of Albemarle.
Responsibilities:
- Build and establish a domestic finance function, encompassing work papers and best practice.
- Manage the monthly end accounting process, including but not limited to cost accruals, provisions calculations, payroll recon, cost analysis and TB review.
- Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and report within the Groups SOX guidelines.
- Review accounting standards and prepare position papers outlining the treatment and approach for the domestic operations.
- Partner with the shared service centres in Dalian and Budapest.
- Perform chart of accounts and other general ledger maintenance functions
- Maintain compliance with internal controls and other corporate policies and procedures.
- Prepare and co-ordinate the domestic tax compliance, including corporate tax, fringe benefits tax, transfer pricing compliance.
- Review the monthly payroll accounts and transactions calculation prepared by HR
- Partner with the finance systems team and develop a cost centre blueprint capable of encompassing project delivery as well as the plant operations.
- Develop non-operational budgets, track and report variance analysis and report to management and Group stakeholders.
- Coordination of the statutory audit, support for preparation of work papers and financial statements, communicating with management and Group
- Analyze monthly financial results and general ledger detail; identify trends; follow up as required
- Accurately report financial performance to internal stakeholders, build and enhance work papers as appropriate.
- Identify areas of improvement and lead the collaboration to enact solutions
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Groups accounting policies

About You

- Minimum of 10 years’ experience with financial analysis, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting in a manufacturing company

- Highest standards of accuracy, precision, organization and attention to detail
- Breadth and capacity to take on other finance roles over time
- Familiar with US and local GAAP knowledge
- Experience with ERP systems at a multinational company
- Must be self-motivated. Must be able to work as part of a team that includes multiple functional areas across the globe. Experience in identifying process flows and optimization.
- Strong demonstrated leadership abilities overseeing an accounting staff
- Advanced written and verbal communications skills
- Bandwidth to conduct reviews with executive level management and third parties in a clear and concise method related to a high visibility refining facility that is essential to Albemarle meeting fast growing global demand for lithium salts.
Education / Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is required. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Chartered Accountant or similar certification a plus.
