About the role
The Occupational Therapist is a valued and collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary health care team within the acute inpatient mental health services. They are accountable for co-ordinating and delivering safe and comprehensive consumer-centred care while working competently within their scope of practice and in alignment with the Eastern Health and Occupational Therapy Board Registration Standards.
The Senior Occupational Therapist will actively contribute to the development and leadership of the Occupational Therapy service in the acute setting, and provide formal/informal supervision and mentoring to Grade 1 and Grade 2 Occupational Therapists and occupational therapy students. The Senior Occupational Therapist will collaborate with the Occupational Therapy Clinical Lead, Grade 4 Allied Health clinicians and Occupational Therapy staff, and represents their discipline at various internal/external forums. This position may be required to work across Eastern Health acute inpatient mental health sites.

To be successful in this role you will possess:
Essential
- Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency.
- A minimum of seven years post graduate experience as a registered Occupational Therapist. Experience, knowledge & skills
- Demonstrated skills in providing reflective professional supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to lead innovation and continuous improvement.
- Relevant theoretical knowledge, experience and skills in the provision of evidence based occupational therapy assessment and interventions in a mental health setting.
- Comprehensive understanding of, and experience in delivering, recovery oriented mental health practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation, policies, plans and strategic directions of public mental health services
- Demonstrated ability to skilfully engage consumers in the development and implementation of individualised plans designed to promote, foster and sustain personal recovery.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in supporting consumers to engage in, structure and access meaningful daily activity and occupation.
- A commitment to working with consumers from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds and to providing services that are family and gender sensitive.
- Knowledge of the mental health sector, including roles and workings of mental health teams and relevant community resources and services to support people with mental illness.
- Knowledge of the NDIS, including understanding the NDIS access process and an ability to support NDIS plan reviews and planning meetings.
- Proven ability and commitment to work collaboratively with consumers, carers, the multidisciplinary team and external agencies.
- Commitment to supervised and reflective practice, lifelong learning and further development.
- Computer literacy and embracing of health technologies and informatics.
- High level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience in supervision of clinical practice of junior staff and students.
- Demonstrated high level inter personal skills with consumers, their families and all health care professionals including effective conflict resolution and negotiation
- Hold a current Victorian driver’s licence.
- Membership to Occupational Therapy Australia.
- Demonstrated ability and skill in working with consumers diagnosed with a dual diagnosis.
- Experience using sensory modulation in a mental health setting.
- Experience in group service delivery.
- Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) trained.
- Evaluation of Social Interaction (ESI) trained.
