About the role
System Design and Transformation’s purpose is to identify, plan and manage emerging WA energy system challenges and opportunities, to ensure the energy system remains secure and reliable.
AEMO is rapidly building new capabilities to manage the energy transition; WA Future System Design strategically plans AEMO’s role in managing the future system.
The Senior Analyst will have an opportunity to bring a deep understanding of the WA domestic gas industry to further support AEMO’s role in forecasting sufficiency through the WA Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO) and related activities relating to the role of gas in the power system. We welcome dynamic and experienced energy professionals with a passion for problem solving and the capability to assist in navigating the generational shift in the way we consume and generate energy.
This role will involve a deep understanding of the emerging needs of the energy systems, including in the development of the Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO) and Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO).
What you will be doing
- Prepare and manage the delivery of supply and demand forecasts for WA domestic gas supply and consumption underpinning the WA GSOO
- Lead development of the GSOO and other projects relating to the role of gas in the power system
- Engage with industry to maintain clear view on the drivers of gas consumption and supply
- Interpret and justify analytical outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide robust recommendations on uplifting AEMO’s reporting
- Engage across the business (across WA and NEM) to uplift processes, working in close collaboration with subject matter experts and internal expertise
- Support other activities of the Future System Design Team, including development of the ESOO and associated reports
- Communicate findings internally and externally with strong presentation and written skills
- Prepare clear, concise, and high quality written and verbal communication to inform internal or external stakeholders on a range of issues for both technical and non-technical audiences
What you will bring to the role
- Tertiary qualification in relevant disciplines (engineering, economics, mathematics, physics)
- Experience in either gas or related industry
- Demonstrated ability to lead project delivery
- Strong experience in data analysis coupled with a deep understanding of power systems and energy markets
- Knowledge of the NEM and WEM dispatch process, generator behaviour and network constraints or the gas markets and its scheduling process
- Sound understanding of technical and market principles related to the gas and power system operation
- Knowledge of political, legal, and regulatory framework in which the gas and electricity industry operates
- Demonstrated experience in writing and presenting complex material for a broad audience
- Ability to build and maintain constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong numerical/quantitative and data analysis capability utilising databases to design and run data analysis
