Our client, Department of Education, are currently seeking a Senior Business Analyst for an initial contract until 01/11/2024 with likely extension/s.
The Performance Monitoring and Reporting Unit (PMR) - in the Strategy and Performance Branch, Department of Education needs a Business Analyst with data expertise to join a team responsible for the ongoing development, enhancement and maintenance of Power BI reporting products to schools and early childhood users.
The successful candidate will need to be able to work with multiple and different stakeholder groups concurrently and be able to self-manage with competing priorities. The position will assist Business Intelligence Developers and Data Engineers in achieving the intended outcomes for the department.
Tasks and Activities:
- Consult with stakeholders and analyse existing data schemas to establish the foundation definitions of DoE's Master Data Assets.
- Conduct requirements gathering workshops with diverse stakeholders including both business stakeholders and technical experts, from practitioners to executives.
- Analyse and document Business Entities as Data Assets, including all data elements and their associated synonyms, lineage, business rules.
- Gather requirements and develop technical specification documents such as business requirements documentation, report functional specifications, system requirements specification etc
- Gather requirements for business processes to inform Data Dictionary and Meta Data Library, providing further detail for each data element in the Master Data.
- Document Business Glossary, to define Master Data in common, business language and associated business processes.
- Identify and problem solve issues/inefficiencies in current state source data.
- Assist in preparing requirements documentation for a master data management solution within a contemporary enterprise data platform.
- Document current state and target state business processes.
- Document data transformation rules and data cleansing rules.

Experience and Skills:
- Experience operating within large and complex ICT programs of work.
- Previous experience working as a Business Analyst on a large Business Analytics and Data Platform Program or equivalent is necessary.
- Strong understanding of contemporary data/business intelligence technologies and approaches and the supporting enterprise-level data governance/management required
- In-depth experience working as a Business Analyst in the data and analytics field.
- Ability to document source data and identify issues/inefficiencies in current state
- Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate with business staff to help manage the decision-making process to define data definitions, including master data and master data management requirements.
- Knowledge of data platform and data modelling principles and schema
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Data Governance concepts including Privacy and Security considerations
- Adept at documenting functional and non-functional requirements
- Experience in M365 tool set, including MS Teams and SharePoint.
- Demonstrated experience working with multiple and different stakeholder groups concurrently.
- Demonstrated experience in working with cloud-based data transformation.
- Demonstrated ability to self-manage with competing priorities.
- High attention to detail and well organised.
- Highly developed verbal communication skills with business and technical stakeholders.
